Anyone have information on this obvious variety? The H is much larger than the more common small H variety for the year. Appreciate any reply.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow. The difference should stand out. Interesting community!

Large H on the left. I'm not great at photos but I think the difference stands out. I have over 20 1900H cents here and only one of them has the large H.

In that case the Large H isn't as scarce as I thought it might be. Thanks for the response!

Quote: A True Expert on Victorian Large cents was booted off here recently. Please be careful where you learn from. And there are plenty True Experts who remain. Please be careful what you imply.

xshift, I imply nothing. I state a fact. I have waited, no one seems to wish to wade in. Griffin.......A TRUE expert.....states that the H size remains constant.....however there are 4 different spacings in regards the Leaf. As the Master had no mint mark, they were all added by hand. The 4 described are..."Close to the leaf", some what or a little away from the leaf, away from the leaf, and well away from the leaf. I hope this assists.

Oh, I'm sure you didn't mean to imply that since one person left, all knowledge went with him/her. Nobody would do that on purpose. There are experts and non-experts alike here, and although research is continually ongoing, not everything/everyone you read (including Mr. Griffin) will end up being the absolute truth after all facts are in. Research can go on for years, even decades, and the best we can do is try to learn from all the sources we can, while keeping in mind that not everything is going to be right in the end. I've also seen a lot of "brand new & never been published!" information be debunked due to incorrect data or simply someone not researching in the right place, remembering correctly, or even proofreading. Just a suggestion, but how about opening up a topic to discuss the merits of different authors of Canada variety books? A debate with other collectors on the subject might be exactly what the doctor ordered. As for wading.. no such doing here. It's way too cold Now, for tamarin's coin: Quote:Griffin ... states that there are 4 different spacings in regards the Leaf. As the Master had no mint mark, they were all added by hand. The 4 described are..."Close to the leaf", some what or a little away from the leaf, away from the leaf, and well away from the leaf. Which one of these four were you specifying as the one for the large H in question?
