I did not get the 2010 Edition yet, but it seems to me they were only $19.95 Canadian.

A few years ago, Charlton started a variety series and has done one denomination per edition. This year it is 5c Victoria issues, last year it was 10c. I think the older editions are harder to find and are more expensive because of the demand for those variety sections - I know I've tried to locate a couple of them and the prices are astronomical compared to their release price.

Its defenitely because of the different varieties they discuss. IMO they should have just made a new book which covered all of them at once.

I *think* they are planning to do that after they finish all the different denominations. It was a good marketing ploy for their book - and guarantees their older editions since they started that section will still be highly sought after even after the pricing sections are obsolete.

Actually, the Charlton cat. has doubled in price. It is now two editions for the price of $20.00 each in what used to be an annual edition for $20.00. covering everything including the R.C.M. junk. Now they have a second edition to cover the R.C.M. junk, which goes to show collectors how much "stuff" the R.C.M. is pumping out. Everything from 1858-1967 (Real Canadian coinage) can be contained in one book whereas a mere 30 years has to be contained in a seperate book. What does that tell collectors about the flood of silly coinage being pumped out? Nice to stay with the Classics (1858~1967)...................forever! Glenn

Believe it or not, I managed to grab the 2001, 2003, and 2006 off ebay for a combined total of 20.00$ UNFORTUNATELY before I knew these were collectibles, and before I started buying them just to have them, I donated my 2005 copy to the library. That is the expensive one, and now it has that ugly library stamp on it. I plan on buying them a new one to replace it and taking it back.

I think the current Charlton is fairly priced at $20.00.
I would be very annoyed if they combined the real numismatics stuff with the giftware crap in a single book for $40.00 and I probably would not buy it.
Their competitor Willey-Haxby sells their book cheaper at $15.00, but I would say the varieties stuff Charlton adds to their book is worth the extra five bucks.

Found a new Charlton's(Vol.1)under the tree.I'm impressed. When I had read there were two volumes this year I thought it would be a money grabbing scheme to force us to buy two books instead of one.The RCM collector stuff is gone,it's all in Vol.2.More photos of,and information about varieties is included. The feature section in the back(Victoria 5cent varieties)is more than just an appendix,it's worth $20 on its own.I usually buy a Charlton's about every five years, now it'll be an annual event.

I think the information in the back(variety section)of the Charlton Standard Catalogue on Canadian Coins from the 2005/59TH edition to date are worth what ever you have to pay to have them. I think they are or will be as collectible as Zoell and Griffin's books someday. They are very sought after books.

I was just moving around a book case and came across the 1974 edition of the Charlton 22nd edition it is a whopping 181 pages , cover price $2.95 and includes tokens and paper money as well. Compare to 458pages in the 62nd edition and then add the currency edition and the token edition and you can double the size for fun. We have become more sophisticated. As the 74 edition does not have MS value I will use EF as a mark for comparison for fun. 1948 1$ 225.00 vs 1250.00 34 years later. 1927 25 cent 110.00 vs 350.00 1907h 1 cent 17.00 vs 55.00 1875h 5 cent 110.0 lg or sm date vs 850 to 1500 1932 50 cent 275.00 vs 1250.00 I found it interesting to see the spread in values 3x to 15x with not to much rhyme or reason. I do like the new Charlton but I have always liked 5 cents so for me it is well worth the $20.00. As a side note putting the same money in the bank would have produced a much better return at 6% for the most part but not near as much fun.
