Is this a case where someone bought the holder instead of the coin? No doubt it's MS65,it's in a CCCS holder,but the toning is butt ugly.Does anyone out there think this coin is worth more than the cost to have it slabbed?If so,why? |

 Unlike the U.S. Third Party Grading companies criteria, I.C.C.S. and C.C.C.S. grade on technicality only. ie: wear on high points, contacts marks, rim defects, cleaning, etc. P.C.G.S however, also goes slightly beyond that by basing their grades also on eye appeal. The old saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder, therefore, if you find this quarter ugly as a result of it's toning, ten other collectors who love toning may be drooling at their keyboard. I could never understand how a T.P.G. company could use eye appeal as one of their grading criteria? How can you score points on a coins overall grading on what's your opinion on beauty! Some men like blondes, others like brunettes, does that mean brunettes are not as nice as blondes. This same analogy can be used for toned coins VS. blast white coins. It's all a matter of taste. |

Ms-65 is a very good grade and hard to find in this condition, so with that said I believe the price was cheap if the coin is truely an ms-65. But for the toning I'm not big on the dark tone but I do find the gold toning very attractive and would bid higher than trends for one. My opinion only

I agree the toning turns me off,I actually think I have a similar toned coin of the same era not as high a grade but I would have been reluctant to send it in because I would have thought the tonning would have degraded it, hmmm.

I don't think it's a bad looking coin. Dark for sure, but very natural looking tone. I'd be more inclined to buy it than a "monster toned" coin that somebody baked in a potato and slipped by the TPG. |

I guess toning is a matter of taste after all,I have a fair number of toned 25cents,nice goldens,blues,browns,iridescents,and attractively blackened Vic's and Ed's but didn't think anyone would find a mottled black modern coin attractive. As I said I have no doubt the coin is correctly graded at MS65.While 65 is a nice grade I think there's still a lot out there but I'm not quite as optimistic as this seller |

Louis at CCCS is known to be on the correct or conservative side..
AND, Glenn hit the nail on the head....BUT, blonds have more fun....lololo
