Hello all. I'm trying to make up a listing of all the different Canadian dimes from 1967 to 2009 so I know what to look for. Is there a good web site that already has this? I've checked a couple but they're somewhat incomplete and missing a description or two of some that I've heard of. Here's what I have made up so far. _1967 (silver) _1968 (silver) _1968 _1969 _1970 _1971 _1972 _1973 _1974 _1975 _1976 _1977 _1978 _1979 _1980 _1981 _1982 _1983 _1984 _1985 _1986 _1987 _1988 _1989 _1990 _1991 _1992 _1993 _1994 _1995 _1996 _1997 _1998 _1999 _1999 P (rare) _2000 _2000 P (very rare) _2000 W _2001 P (schooner) _2001 P Volunteer _2002 P _2003 P old effigy (crowned) _2003 P new effigy (uncrowned) _2003 WP _2004 P _2005 P _2006 P _2006 RCM_2007 RCM_2008 RCM_2009 RCM_2010 (will probably be RCM again) .... I'm sure I'm missing varieties here so that's why I would like a more comprehensive list. Are there P and RCM coins for 2000 - 2005? Are there silver / non silver dimes for 1968? What are the differences for the Ottawa and Philadelphia 1968 dimes? EDIT: I've updated the list. Thank you for your replies. Edited by matchbox 01/25/2010 8:46 pm

Matchbox, The 1968 differences can be seen by looking at the edges. Philadelphia dimes have square shaped grooves and Ottawa have dimes "V" shaped grooves. The common version of 1969 is the small date. The large date 1969 is extremely rare Your list from 1996 to present has been corrected as follows: 1996 1997 1998 1999 1999 P (rare) 2000 2000 P (very rare) 2000 W 2001 P (schooner) 2001 P Volunteer 2002 P 2003 P old effigy (crowned) 2003 P new effigy (uncrowned) 2003 WP 2004 P 2005 P 2006 P 2006 RCM2007 RCM2008 RCM2009 RCM2010 (will probably be RCM again)

there is also a 1998W and in 2007 there is a curved 7 (only in mint sets) and a straight 7. I bought my curved 7 for $1.00 from a dealer who cut up a PL mint set and didnt realize there was a difference. edit: oh, and the 2010 is RCM, I have the PL set.

$48, I just bought a "wide 0" 1980 Cdn dime on ebay and when it arrived I found it looks the same as the "narrow 0" in my collection. Charlton images don't help much. I cant see any difference between the two and other web images I've looked at are not helping. Can you help?

Ive been hunting around for images on the net, and I am coming up empty. There should be a small difference in which the wide 0 should be more rounder, and looking more like a 'O'. (Oh) Any chance you can post a good pic of yours?

The way to tell the difference is to run a horizontal line along the top and bottom of the numbers 1980.. The Small 0 will be under that top line, the Large 0 will be touching the top line along with the 198, Both 0's will be touching the bottom line...

If you have Volume 1 of the 2010 Charlton, there is a picture of both 1980 varieties on page 122.

OK, I finally took the pics and got my teenager to help me put them side by side for comparison and also added the line suggested by d23. Do I have Wide 0's, Narrow 0's, or one of each?

Hate to say it, I think you got 2 narrow Zero's. Hang tight for the other 11 jurors.

d23,
I tried your technique with the double lines on the pictures in my Charlton. I am getting the opposite result of what you stated ? The "0" in wide 1980 picture does not touch the top line. The "0" in narrow 1980 picture does touch the top line.
Malibu,
Using the double line technique and comparing against my Charlton, I would say both your dimes are wide "0"s

Thanks for your feedback. After much head banging (ouch) I think I found a way to be sure: in the 'Wide 0' illustration in Charlton, if you measure the inside diameter of the 'o' in the '9' it is the same as the inside diameter of the '0' (in my 2009 edition it's exactly 1/8"). However, in the Narrow 0, the inside diameter of the 'o' in the '9' is 1/8", but the inside diameter of the '0' is slightly larger, 5/32". So I measured these dimensions in the above images right on the screen and found them all to be exactly the same, i.e. I have 2 Wide 0's!
