I'm thinking of buying this coin, $115, 1909 S wood toned. Claimed to beVF30. Looks close to me. Is this a fair price considering the scratch in the upper right obverse field?

M9, the coin is probably worth it though I would like to see the reverse. That said, I am always willing to spend a little more on a somewhat expensive coin and make sure that I am getting a coin that is not compromised and has eye appeal for me. I, personally, have never been able to put a woody in the collection and enjoy how it looks compared to the other coins. The scratch will more than likely body bag the coin. Why buy a damaged coin. I think I would continue to look. Jim

If it's not an altered 1909P, it appears to be worth $115. I'm not a fan of the woodgrain look, so it wouldn't be for me...especially being a key date in the series. Just remember that far more people do NOT like this than do, so when it comes time to resell, it will be very difficult to resell.

I personally like the woodgrain. I have a 1911 with the same type of toning. The coin seems to be valued around that. The bottom line is though, if it is going in your collection and you like it, who cares if you spend an extra $10 or so to get the toned version. Pretty Coin!

The price seems reasonable, better pics would help.

Just from the detail I can make out on that obverse that's a high VF, easy, may even go better. Nice catch. Are you sure there isn't a V.D.B. on the back of that one (...obscured, possibly, by the wood-graining)? Get that loupe out!
