A friend of mine (he ceased merely being a "supplier" years ago) who sells me a lot of bulk nickels and who also sells a lot of currency on ebay sent me this humorous email a week ago.

I have cleaned up his colorful language and altered the name of the buyer.

Just a fun email I thought I'd share...

Steve,

It didn't take long to get my first idiot this year.

I sold a BEP issued $2 Dallas district star note last week to (identity hidden). It didn't take long for the problems to start.

I was accused of not including the BEP issued PVC-laden holder that ANY currency collector knows will eventually destroy any note stored in them. (I enclosed the original BEP holder and a PVC-free holder in the shipment).

I offered that they could return the item for a full refund. Nope...they want THE holder!. (The holder was enclosed with the item BUT it is a very tight fit!). They said they'd like to keep the note until a replacement arrives but they didn't have "any extra holders to protect the note until the replacement arrives".

I next told them to send the item back as I do not have any replacements.

I went ahead and refunded their money and told them to keep the note .... in other words ..."HAPPY NEW YEAR!". I'm in a real good mood...take the money, keep the item and go away!

They then paid again and sent me the following (my replies are in red):
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't understand why you can't just send me one of the other BEP currency sleeves that you have, on 1 of your other auctions?

ANS: Because if I did that then I'd be missing a BEP PVC saturated holder.

You could easily just cancel one of your auctions, and give me the right original currency sleeve, that you stated in your auction when I 1st purchased it!

ANS: I could, but I won't. I do not cancel auctions unless there is a listing error.

Thinking that you can just refund money will not solve my problem on this!

ANS: I do not have any other BEP holders...I cannot solve your problem other than give you your money back and let you keep the item. If you aren't happy with a 100% refund and a free item I suggest you take it up with ebay. Just go to the "SiteMap" page, click on "Resolution Center" and then "Resolve a Problem".

I do not want a full refund at all.

ANS: You got a full refund and got a free item...live with it, it happens.

I have a idea! why don't you just give me 5 dollars so I can send for my own sleeve then?

ANS: I've got a better idea! I gave you ALL your money back, let you keep the item and you can go buy the holders you want. That's a pretty good deal! (It doesn't get any better than FREE!).

Please understand that I have waited to give you feedback on this, (Could care less about the Feedback and DSR's --- I already know what it going to happen) I just want the right original currency sleeve, or just 5 dollars, so I can send in for, and I get my own then.

Take ALL the money and go buy yourself several PVC saturated BEP holders and let them ruin your notes!

Thank you

(Your welcome!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shortly later they paid again. I refunded again and told them DO NOT PAY THIS AGAIN!.

The part about "I've been waiting to leave feedback" and "Give me back $5 so I can send for my own" is almost, but not quite, "Feedback Extortion".

Haven't heard from them so far today.

BTW --- thanks for the update on the nickels....hope they do well for us! Still waiting to hear on the pecans...should know more tomorrow.

Thanks!

(My friend's name)

weerdsteev.. did your friend ever really explain that the original holder was in the shipment? (I don't see that part anywhere in the (relatively humorous) exchange of emails.) (then again, I could be just as clueless as his buyer! lol)

Maybe your friend could have offered to shred the bill to save the buyer having to wait for the holder to deteriorate the currency.

I don't think the buyer understands that he got the item free and if he wants the original holder all he has to do is buy one (even if it wasn't in the shipment) and he will still have the free note. I am guessing the holder cost more than the note itself (not sure about this either) and the guy wanted the holder more than the note when he bid. At least that is what I think is going on by reading the email exchange back and forth but the guy isn't out anything at all and if he wants a holder he should either find another auction for one or find one somewhere else because he is not out anything on this transaction so he is in the same position he was before he ever bid (except he has a extra note he didn't have before he bid)

I sent xshift's and Bryan1315's comments/questions to my friend and he said:

Steve,

From the listing....

"To provide better protection for the note it has been placed into a PVC-free mylar sleeve. I will include the original BEP PVC loaded sleeve but highly recommend that you do not use that sleeve for long-term storage purposes"

I also told them the original sleeve was in the shipment, too.

Can't get much clear than that!

I kinda agree that they did not understand the concept of "free".

Anyway...no new developments and no Negative FB....but they still got plenty of time!

I'm thinking about sending them another note in a PVC loaded sleeve and asking then to see if it fits the slots in the BEP holder!

Should I stir the pot or leave well enough alone?

Now this is *really* funny. I think he should stir the pot Of course, that is just my wanting some more entertainment at the poor (?!) buyer's expense

He could ship that second pvc-laden holder and tell the buyer that it will be destroyed even faster if he places the note between the 2 holders - thereby providing TWICE the pvc needed to deteriorate it. What fun! And all for FREE!

Oh that's right, we don't have a clue what FREE is
