I am on the RCM mailing list, and today I got my next piece of advertising from them. It was a small catelogue.
I thumb through the thing, and see right on the front page, the 1st commerative silver dollar that is released, specific to the Canadian navy. It's got gold inlay on it, looks neat.
I say to myself, I want this, so I go to the web site to grab one, and wammo....the gold inlay is only available in proof sets.
So then I go, ok, Ill get the BU or the proof version, (which has no gold inlay). I look on the web site, and wammo, this item is delayed in shipping.
I then said ok, heres an uncirculated proof-like set in the advertisement, I collect those (I got em all..all the way back to 1959), so I look on the web site and wammo, web site says there is a delay in shipping.
Then I see the Vancouver Collector set on for 49 bucks. I thought cheap enough,..wammo sold out as per the web site.
Theres a small insert in the advertisement, saying order before jan 31st, as they are increasing prices.
Not a word of a lie, this happened. I mean really,I find them so frustrating in their marketing and logistics. I've been waiting since the beginning of october for a limited edition coin that still hasn't shipped.
Why the heck don't they just produce the inventory 1st, then release it. Its obvious they suck in 'just in time' production.
Ill tell ya, I wish I ran that place...there'd be big friggin changes.

Good morning $48! Personally I feel you shouldn't buy directly from the R.C.M. because you will pay full price. My advice: simply wait a couple of years or in most cases a few months and shop for the R.C.M. items you want on E-bay. You'll get them at either half price or at a considerable discount.
That's the beauty about collecting modern day R.C.M. coins, the longer you wait to buy'em , the less expensive they are!
p.s.:sort of like buying a second hand car.

Whew.....I feel better now after that rant and a good night sleep.
Your right tho, the majority of it goes down in price.
Im just amazed that this outfit would advertise something and knowingly not even have it available to immediatlely accomodate orders
Produce the goods, sit on them, advertise and then release and ship. Its a simple and resonable process. Anything a little more sosphiticated and they cant co-ordinate it properly.
I forgot to mention, I have had to cancel orders from them before as I wanted to buy them for bday gifts or the like, only to discover weeks later that they will not deliver in time.
I remember seeing sellers on ebay, advertising 'buy it now' 2009 Lincoln Cents months before their scheduled released. They'd mark the sale as a 'pre-sale'
Ya think they followed the lead of the RCM?

The R.C.M.'s administration has gone down hill in the last 20 years. Yes, they may be more modern and "technically" more advanced than they were 20 years ago, however, all the high gizzmoes in the world are no good if you are not properly organized and have poor customer relation/service.
After all remember the bullion gold that went missing? Is it missing, did they find it or was it just a miss count, to this day I don't think anyone really knows. I think it is just a cover up for unaccounted gold that has been stolen out of their "fort knox" style building.
They finally realized they have egg in the face and are too embarrassed to admit that they have been robbed. It's typical of the Federal Government to do this. Now you can understand how they can fluzzy up your order and their website.
It makes one wonder how a multi billion $ Federal Corporation that's been around for 100+ years can't seem to get their act together?

I will share a similar story.
Tim says to himself, hey these petro cards with the coin are pretty cool and part of it is to goto the olympic athletes and surely these wont depreciate that much. Ok I'll use my petro points, or in the case I dont have enough, spend the $10 as necessary.
So... the other day I peruse colonial acres, and guess how much they are selling a pair of them for?
$5
so that's $2.50 each.
GRRRRRR... why am I so naive, coincommunity you were/are so right.

May I ask, what are other good Canadian online stores, besides colonial acres?

I once waited for an RCM coin to come out and then went to my local Jean Coutu(with the canada post outlet inside) to see if it was available. It wasn't in the store and I asked the cashier when did she expect to receive them. She told me that they don't necessarily receive all the coins but only some. But if I wanted to, I could leave my name and number and they would order it for me when they could.
Guess what ?....FREE SHIPPING ! No more RCM direct order for me.

gatewest coin is pretty good to deal with , very good selection as good or better than colonial acres, and no shipping fee depending on the amount ordered. ( though I haven't delt with them for quite some time now)

I really like CA since they stock almost anything you could want. I got a proof
$2 Nunavut in the case a little while back for 19.99...it's just hard to say no to
prices like that. Recently Citadel Coins(citcns) earned a big thumbs up from me as well,
and they also stock a fair amount of mint product.

When it comes right down to it, unless you live close to the mint, the post office is your best bet. If they have what your looking for you don't have to pay for shipping, they can often order what you need( or get it from another post office)and sometimes they have coins in stock long after they are sold out at the mint. You can pick up discounts there as well.
