It is big (49 mm). It is heavy (I suspect lead).

This is a big piece at 49mm. It's looks like it was in the ground for a long time, with the greenish color it might have some copper in it. The design seems to have snakes everywhere. The reverse appears to be a cadeaus with what looks like a snake circling above. the obverse appears to be a figure either holding a snake in each hand, or holding a club in each hand and surrounded on each side with more snakes. I'm not sure if this is a coin or some type temple piece, it looks ancient could be from India.

I think the figure in the top pic is a winged humanoid - whether it be angel, demon or something else I'm not sure. I must admit my instinctive reaction when I first saw it was "Garuda bird", from Hindu mythology, though I don;t think there's any actual connection there with this piece, since that culture has no use of the rod of Asclepius symbol. It might even be just a badly drawn eagle; the top edge of the wings definitely looks mediaeval Germanic heraldic in style, rather than ancient.

As for what it is, it's definitely not a coin. I suspect a lead token of some kind. The presence of the "rod of Asclepius" (an ancient symbol of healing in the West) implies to me it might be some kind of amulet to ward off sickness and evil.

Hahahaha, Modern Occupational Health and Safety would have a feild day with this!... A Lead Amulet (and thus probably worn against the skin) to ward off bad health! Does anyone else instantly think of Lead Poisoning ;)
