Quote:He's only been collecting for 11 weeks, and he's completed his LMC collection and his clad dimes. Nickels are complete from 1956-2008. That's really cool. I hope he sticks with it...I regret that I didn't keep up with it for *several* years, even though I started the hobby as a kid.

I guess I just don't understand the nickel search. I do love the dimes, however, it's got to be silver for me! I didn't search a whole lot of dimes last year, but pulled 150+ from boxes including 15 mercs and a few old canadian silver. Year before pulled six barbers. ffd

My only problem with dimes is the 1996w. Has anyone heard of anyone finding one from circ? It basically makes building a complete set of business strikes impossible. -XoG

We've never found any W's in circulation (or any proof-S for that matter).

Ok, so now I'm kind of hooked. I picked up another box yesterday (Brinks this time) and pulled an AU+ 1961. A very nice looking coin. Plus, the great thing about the Brinks rolls is that you can see very quickly if there is any silver in there!

The bad news is 1982s isn't a silver issue, it is a clad proof. The good news is proof issues are even harder to find in circulation than silver coins!!

I know a guy who found a 96-W dem in circulation. Don't ask me how it got there. Not only are they 'impossible' to find in cirulcation, but they are very expensive to buy. I would imagien though, that a small amount of them have ended up in circulation. I also know of a big burglary ring that was broken up several yrs ago, and when the burgs were caught they admitted to stealing over 200 mint/proof sets, all of which they broke open and spent as normal coin. Turns out they considered this safer than trying to pawn the stuff. I'm guessing they aren't the only ones that have done it.

Figured I'd give dimes a try. Got $250 in rolls. Found a Swiss 1/2 Franc and a 39 Merc. May do it again sometime, but for now I think I still like the nickles. SO much to find there.

mrak,
What year is the Swiss 1/2 franc that you found? If it's dated before 1968 it too would be silver

1982 "no-P" and of course any proofs that somehow sneaked in. Quote:
Second, look out for the coveted 1983 no mintmark dime.
So do both 1982 and 1983 have no mint mark errors... or was one of these posts a typo?

Yeah, I checked and it's an 81. but when I first pulled it from the roll I was thinking it was all silver b/c it was a solid color on the edge. Doesn't matter, still like finding the foreign coins when roll searching.
