I started a collection of Jamestown items a few years back. Some items are from the worlds fair of 1907, some items from the 350 year anniversary, and some items from the 400 year anniversary. Does anyone think a collector would want the entire lot or should I break it up to sell?

Nice display of a gorgeous collection! I love to see themed displays like that ... you'd get a nice prize, I bet, if you could do up something for a coin show that has competitive displays .

Should you sell? I guess that depends upon whether or not you still have interest. If the "fun" has gone out of it for you, it may be time, but if you're still enjoying it then hang on. If you already know you're going to sell, you'd likely be looking at breaking it up. I don't see anyone buying the whole thing, but I guess you never know.

Very nice collection. One of the things I collect is those elongated pennies. Several months ago I acquired one from the 1907 Expo. It features Pocahantas on the front. It was done on a 1907 IH cent. It seems collections usually attract more attention than individual items. It depends on what you're looking to get out of it, and how you plan to sell them.

I need some cash and I thought I was over the excitement of finding neat Jamestown items to add to this collection but your oblong penny put a little skip in my heart just now. That being said, I really only want what I have into the collection which in most part are the two mint coins and the HK347 medal. I'm not trying to get a premium for the set by any means. I think the rules of the CCF state I'm not to talk money here but since the collection is not for sale I suppose I can ask this question, does the forum think as a collection I could get $500.00? Would I get more if the collection was broken up?

If you sell, you could break it up into three groups. Keep it mind that you might get more if you sold each coin separately.

1). Text or documents (maps)
2). Ship model
3). Coin/medals

Here's photos of the penny. Sorry if they're a little dark.

Guy from the local flea market gets these for me because he knows I collect them. I buy quite a few coins from him.

Nice collection. I'm sure you'd find a home for whatever you decided to sell/trade...always another collector around the corner.

I would imagine that selling it as a whole would bring in more money as a themed collection? I don't know the fine points of selling whole vs. separate, but I would lean towards the former.

I have the Jamestown Gold Commem. and two of the Silver Dollars, and I really like them.....You put together something REALLY special though and I hope you always hang on to it.
I could imagine that a history teacher would LOVE to have you bring this "lot" into the class !
