Pictured is the coin in the title. There is a wide and narrow date variety for this date. My opinion is the coin is a wide date, but I would like your input. Thanks -- Terrell

It appears no one knows about this variety. So I have added some pictures from a reference to show the difference. Would appreciate your thoughts on which one it most looks like. There's no prize, no value difference, or consequences for your input.

I really think that they are the same. I see no difference whatsoever except wear. Wear will often cause devices to flatten out and appear closer together than on a coin of less wear. Wear will also cause the dentils to nearly close up and become solid.

I see that I have misunderstood the question. I would say that yours looks like what is labeled as the 'narrow date', based on the lack of the little curly Q in the '2'.

The dentils also take more of the shape of the 'narrow date', less rounded, more elongated.

Hmm.this is an interesting one! I don't specialize in Venezuela, but I did some quick reading. Something worth noting- this coin was struck at the Philadelphia mint. In 1902, dates were added to dies for US coins, so that might be the same case here. So...given the total mintage of 500,000--there may be just two dies: ("narrow date" and "large date").

Comparing the above photos, the most obvious difference between the two is the spacing between the digits. Lacking UNC examples, the noted shape differences could be due to circulation. Most likely, only one style of digit punch was used. At a quick glance, the digit spacing on your coin looks to wide for the "narrow date", but I'd want to do an overlay to be more certain. If you can find larger pics of the varieties, that would help.

Thanks everyone. DVCollector; I have put larger pictures of the reference coins and my coin. I do not have the software to do overlays. I thought about putting this coin in the Classic section, but I knew that wouldn't fly even though as you pointed out this is an American mint product. The topic of my world coin collection is coins minted by the US.

Your new pics are great
Just eyeballing the two varieties, I see the digit spacing is pretty dramatic.
I would agree your coin is a wide date, the 19 spacing really matches.
Not sure an overlay is necessary.
