Being from Colorado I should know when our Statehood Quarter will be launched, but I don't. I have tried several web sites, but can't get an answer except for "this summer." I live 300 miles from Denver, but my wife and I both plan on being on hand for the ceremonies. Can anyone supply us with the launch date for the Colorado quarter? Thanks. Found this Gary. Hope it helps. Quote # Wednesday - May 24, 2006 Colorado quarters are off and rolling Ceremonial Colorado quarters were stamped this morning, formally making the Centennial State the 38th to have its own quarter. Gov. Bill Owens started the pressing machine at the Mint in Denver to create the coin that depicts a mountain range over a banner that reads "Colorful Colorado." The design does not represent a real mountain, but represents what people think about Colorado, said First Lady Frances Owens. "We would need about 10 quarters," Frances Owens said about showing all the good things about Colorado. About 1,500 people sent in design submissions for two years. The other four final designs considered for the coin were cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, a soldier/skier if the 10th Mountain Division, the Rocky Mountains and Pikes Peak. The Denver and Philadelphia Mints will produce between 575 million to 650 million Colorado quarters, said Timothy Riley, plant manager for the Denver Mint. About 100 million of the quarters have been produced since May 8. The coins will be released to the public on June 14. Colorado's quarter is part of the Fifty States Commemorative Coin Program Act passed by Congress in 1997. Each year, five state coins are produced in the order of statehood. Colorado became a state on Aug. 1, 1876. Unquote http://coincollector.org/archives/cat_news.html Steve

Looks like June 14.
Hope that gives me time to plan for the trip.
Kid, if I go, I'll get you a quarter.

Hey Gary, I just read in the latest edition of Numismatic News that for the release ceremony on the 14th, they plan to have a Wells Fargo stage coach deliver the coins from the Mint to the Capitol in Denver. The release ceremony is supposed to be at the Capitol building (gotta love that big shiny gold dome ) where you will be able to purchase them by the roll. Edit: Festivities are tentatively scheduled to start at 11:30am on the Capitol grounds.

biokemist6, It's starting to look as though I'll be able to attend. The distance from the mint to the capitol building isn't very far. Should be interesting.
I'm going to contact a state representative who I know and try and get further details.
Will definitely buy a roll or two. Not because they will be hard to come by, but for the historical significance.
Thanks for the information!!!!

Oh Gary, I'm soooooooooo envious! I wanta come home! It won't be much of a walk from the Mint to the Capitol, but fun to see the stagecoach on the streets of the Mile High again! Do enjoy yourself!
I love my Proof of the CO Quarter. Looks like the Maroon Bells or very similar.
I'm sure that you'll let us all know about your trip! (Please, please)!

Debbie, I'm really looking forward to the trip.
Some would think it's a little silly to put 600 miles on my truck for a brief coin ceremony, but it will only happen once, and should be exciting.
If there's any special inside ceremonies, I hope to pull a few strings and get invited. But, even if it's just a parade to the Capitol Building, and then buiying a few quarters, I'll still do it.

I, for one, don't think that you're silly going the round trip 600 miles...oh what a beautiful drive up and over the Divide! Are you going I-70 or the more relaxed way up and over Monarch Pass? Either way, I hope that you come home with lots of coins and beautiful memories!

Debbie, As you know, there are various ways to get to Denver from western Colorado. One we have done recently is over Monarch, and then through south park. Kind of neat to see 20 miles of highway straight in front of you, and then hit mountains again. When our yourest son taught high school in Monument, we would go that route. It's great, but we stay away in the wintertime.
Will likely go to Denver via I-70, unless the wife goes, then we would leave a day earlier and visit the relatives in Pueblo first.
I still need to learn particulars about the ceremonies so that I can better plan the trip.
