No I didn't find a treasure map but X did mark the spot at one yard sale. I do a lot of yard sales every Saturday. My daughter is away at college and this actually helps pay the bills. My main hunt is for coins, gold and silver with some antiques thrown in. I hope this is in the right forum, didn't see any forum on shipwreck coins.

At one house I did my usual yard sale questioning. "do you have any old coins or jewelry?" and one lady said she had Pirate coins. So I asked her if I could see them. The whole time I was thinking they were "Pirates of the Caribbean" coins because I was only a few miles from Disneyland. But she came out with a large flat box and pulled out a big picture frame with 5 coins and several certificates glued to the matte board. I knew these were real because I recognized the very first coin. A silver 8 Real the size of a silver dollar from the ship Atocha sunk in 1622 and found by Mel Fisher. There were 4 other coins too, from other shipwrecks, but I didn't care, I immediately asked the lady how much. The first price she said, I thought about it a little (just for drama) and said OK. I knew the Atocha coin was worth a lot.

Too much trouble to upload pics so here are three of the coins
* 8 Real from the Atocha, wrecked in 1622
* Ducaton from the ship Hollandia sunk in 1743
* Copper cash coin from the Admiral Gardner wreck of 1808

Any body have any idea where I could sell something like this or is there a forum for people interested in these type of coins?

Here is a link to this same post with pictures on another forum I belong to.

I've read a lot of your posts on the other forum, didn't realize you were a member here. There seems to be an expert in about every are of numismatics here. If you are looking for authentication of these swamperbob is probably your best bet.

I'm not sure where the best place to sell is. ebay comes to mind, but if they are really high dollar coins you might try one of the major auction houses.

The Admiral Gardner piece is cheap and I don't think the Hollandia piece would be that much either. The Atocha coin is probably common but they tend to sell for more than they are worth (You can usually buy much nicer non-shipwreck pieces for less. The only thing the Atocha piece has going for it is the stories behind it which DOES add to the value in my opinion.)

So what was the fourth shipwreck?
