I bought this 1942s Walking Liberty half dollar on ebay 6 months ago. The seller listed it as ms-63 I believe. I'm no expert but it looks cleaned to me. I only paid $5 for it and went and picked it up so didnt have to pay shipping (5 miles from my house). do you guys believe it is MS-63. whats your opinion. Either way I am going to make money on this coin. Silver alone is worth more then $5. but did I find a mega score?

A great deal really, but not a steal. You got it for a bit below melt, so even if it is cleaned you came out ahead. And in my opinion, it is nowhere near MS condition, but for below melt price, condition does not matter as much either.

Thanks nod2003! I only every buy coins on ebay for "junk silver" price. They also have to be within driving distance and have to waive the shipping cost and accept Cash. I know absolutly nothing about coin grading. So thanks for the info. Just trying to find out if I got a $20+ coin for $5. I acually bought 4 coins from this guy for a total for $20.54. 1942D walking 1936 walking 1941-p walking and this 1942-s walking.

The 42s is a lower mintage, And there are quite a few collectors that would need that one to complete an album. It looks like you made a good trade, and if you are happy with it a great trade.

Quote: but did I find a mega score? Um, no. This coin barely makes F12, much less Mint State. As you know, you did OK for the price but I would immediately suspect a seller who advertises such a coin as "Uncirculated."

As said, $5 is a decent price, not a "mega score". The coin is better than F12...would probably be in the mid-VF range.

I'm thinking with SuperDave on this one. Not a whole lot higher than F-12. This coin got media blasted or something like it. I can see details but the coin has been truly hit hard by whatever got to it. Sorry! Still a good price for a great design! Walkers are some of my favorites!

Quote: Not a whole lot higher than F-12 Yes, this coin does look like it has taken a beating, but are you guys "net grading" it downward? It has VF25-30 details.

I agree with Steve on the grade. It's VF details/cleaned.
