Don't know if this is the proper thread to ask this question, but here goes...
I heard just the other day that Australia has its bank notes made out of plastic? Any truth to that? If so, how might I obtain one or two? Bigfella?

Yes all our notes are polymer these days. In fact I think we were the first nation to issue a polymer note in 1988. I am sure BigFella has some you can order, and you can buy recent issues direct from our mint.

Yes we have polymer notes. An interesting fact is the first polymer note in Australia was issued in 1988 in the city of Newcatle....my home!!!!!
I can do uncirculated polymer notes in all denominations. I have many first and last prefixes as well.

Gary Burke - Now this really is my forte! Aussie polymer... Just Love it! And my most knowledgeable subject! And although I have just changed my web space to accommodate my coin thread, (for now), you can get some really cool stuff from here, with exceptional rarity! Defiantly worth considering!!! And Bigfella will be able to help you no end if you require some! And this can be without spending heaps of money... EG, The currently available last prefixed KC05 (KC being the last prefix printed & 05 being for the year 2005) $5 has the second lowest mintage of any polymer so far (at only a 89,963 print run) and currently is very reasonability priced, (as they are current issue). While my recommendation to you will alway's be for First & Last prefix's, notes as they alway's gets the best for return for monies outlaid, long term.

No I didn't, I did work for them for many years, in the finance sector. Learnt how many different fields they are present in. Eg: Medical machinery, areoplane engines etc etc etc.....
Yes now we are of track. My earlier useless fact was meant to be somewhat related to the topic at hand.

GE also make Railway locomotives and is one of the biggest suppliers (under license) for loco engines in Australia. Most trains running in NSW and locos owned by National Rail use GE engines.
