The collection of 1/25 oz gold coins from the RCM are nice looking in my opinion.
I have the urge to maybe collect them eventually.
What does everyone think about these coins ? They are quite small and are selling for quite a bit more than the value of gold.
at 1/25 oz we are looking at about 40 something melt value while people are selling them for about $100 and more.
Anyone think that the price is too high ?

The smaller the coin, the higher the premium with regards to percentage. Not much to do about it but wait - with patience you will get most NCLT mint bullion at close to melt. And yes, the prices are way too high IMO.

RCM product: a tax on those who refuse to learn their lesson ;o)

the first coin in this series , I think it was the moose , was a neat idea ( I thought at the time ) it was unique being so small, sort of "cute" and it was an affordable gold coin. I might collect them because they're a little different but not definitely for the gold content.

Anybody know at what time of the year for 2010 that the 1/25 gold coins go on sale ? I don't know about the years before so I thought I would ask.

Well I purchased the de havilland plane and the 2008 Gold Louis.
Yep, they are quite nice and yes very small. But what surprised me more was how very thin they are as well. Was not expecting them to be so thin.
Am happy with my purchase though.

Attractive coins, in my opinion. I bought the 2009 issue (red maple) online and was very impressed by the detail and strike quality for such a small coin; I think the small size adds to the novelty of the series.

As for price, I can accept that the premium on small coins will be high, but I think the mint's price on the latest 2010 issue ($109.95) is a getting a bit too high.

I've since bought the 2005 and 2007 issues at very reasonable prices (<$100), and know I can easily sell for much more on auction sites. Good investment in my opinion, as far as RCM numismatics go. You can rarely go wrong with gold.
