I recently found this article about counterfeit British pounds in circulation. It's interesting, and shocking.

The article is a few months old, I apologize if it's been posted already. I searched, but didn't find anything.

Here is a link about the topic from The Royal Mint. They estimate that 2.5% are counterfeit.

One thing that neither mentions, is some many of the £1 coins are so beatup so that does not help the matter.

Given that, I seen anyone refusing to accept a £1 coin.

Since I dislike the £1, I always ask if I can obtain either £2 or 50 pence coins instead.
