Hello. I am trying to find somebody who has (or has access to) the UK coins for the 2012 Olympics. I know they have a countdown type of coin for each year starting in 2009 and then I also saw where a child designed the reverse for another coin for the olympics (I believe it was a 50-pence coin). I know they can be ordered from The Royal Mint, but I wanted to see if anybody here has easy access to them and if they would sell them or trade for them. Thanks for the help!

I have lived in the UK since 1998 and I actually am more current with US coins made for circulation than I am for the UK. I think the same issue of coins being made but not being released like what happens in the US is happening in the UK.

I think collecting the 50 pence circulation pieces being released up to the 2012 Olympics will be a difficult challenge.

The UK is the last G20 country to leave the recession. We finally had growh of 0.1%.

I have yet to find any 2009 50 pence pieces in circulation. There were 3 for 2009...Royal Shield, Kew Gardens, and Kid Designed one. Cost from the mint in the UK for the Kid Designed 50 pence is £1.99 plus £2.95 for shipping...total of £4.94 that is x4 face without shipping and almost x10 face with shipping.

I also have not seen the 2008 £2 Olympic Handover coin in circulation either.

It costs 10 for shipping outside of the EU with The Royal Mint, the 50p costs 1.50. If you were to buy enough stuff, the shipping would still be 10. Go onto The Royal Mint website. I have had problems as I don't have a credit card I can't get the stuff I want, but I do have a 10% off thing to be used by end on goods by end of jan with code FL7BB!

There are to be 29 50ps and we should know the winners by some time later this year. It was originally planned that they would be known before the summer holidays, but did not happen. Chances of seeing these in circulation could be quite small, as 50ps are hard to get a hold of! And people will hoard these, get a set, they could be worth a bit, unless the mint decides that need to make billions of them!
