Here I have a George VI One Penny coin dated 1937.
The the royal portrait and Britannia are missing and looks smudged this has been done without defacing the legend.
The penny is still a perfect shape too.

Is this an error coin of some sort or just a "curio".
The coin itself is very nice .

I have no idea about this one. I'd suspect post-mint damage - it's been machined, for whatever reason.

Notice how the digs are parallel to the closest edge? It looks like the coin was rotated against a cutting tool.
