MrCanada.. post a picture. I would be very interested in seeing it.

It will be great for comparison for size, weight and style of letters.

For those that are unfamiliar with the old Hudson bay posts here is a map of the James Bay area showing some of the early posts.

$48...So far so good, and by that I mean that it has not been determined proof positive either way..

One researcher of Hudson bay will be at the RCNA convention in Saint John and is going to talk with others about these and hopefully some thing will develop.

I have spoken with the currency museum and they are not sure, but if these are proven authentic they will be interested.

Just as a side note all 3 leather experts I have spoken with, independent of each other said the leather pouch is brain tanned and they have seen leather pouches 100 plus years old that looked like mine..

Appreciate you asking $48... I will post any updates I receive..

Hhhmm..if things work out and they are authentic, then I think you got yourself a national treasure.
I will watch for it on the Canadian version of The Antiques Roadshow

Thank goodness someone bumped this. I was talking to a dealer in Vancouver and he figured it was a regualr circulation coin before and was since carved into this. Figures we should be looking at the weight of coins from around 1745. He figures he could see a vague date there.

snaz...very interesting direction to go... I have done a lot of looking for coinage of that year and there's not much out there that I can find for comparison.

Having tokens in hand and studying under microscope I am unable to see any faint traces of a date....

Appreciate you asking about them with dealers, if you happen to come across any other ideas I am always open to suggestions...

Update....Things are looking more positive with the tokens. Here is an article from the RCNA issue of July/August of 2007 on the HB artifacts.

Mine tokens are same weight, size and shape, I purchased them from Minnesota..article says only 31 were in this hoard..

Does any one have a copy that you can post a clearer picture of this page ( This is from an email and when I down sized the picture some clarity was lost) Thank you....

This is wild...I can still read the CN Journal entry you posted and when it speaks of an HB and the tokens being 'pierced' it just all makes sence to me.
Well done..im convinced..how about taking them to the Royal Ontario Museum and seeing if they can provide a COA.

Thanks $48....This is page 1 of 4 of part 1 in the 2007 July / August issue of the RCNA. Part 2 & 3 is in the 2007 September & October issue with part 3 having the conclusion on these tokens..

I have emailed the RCNA to purchase these back order issues as I do not know what the final results are...

I'm not going to get my hopes up too high as usually with my luck the bubble will get burst....

This is a fascinating thread.
D, your photos sure seem to show a great reason for high hopes. I guess the weight is a bit off but probably within spec for such a crude token? Congats.

More good news...

In a nut shell these tokens were sent to labs and experts from many different countries and 3 continents were involved with analysis. The chemical make up for the proper time frame, how they were made and several other factors were involved. The tokens I have are identical to the ones described in the HB artifacts issues.

Their conclusion is as follows:

Now that is FREAKIN AWESOME D!!
Very very cool. I'm pumped you figured it out. I mean, finding that article has taken this long. Very Rad man.
I'm pumped for you! :D
D, you should send them in to Todd @ BlueCC photos and get him to shoot them for you. With a known mintage of 31...... It seems worth the couple bucks to have them professionally photographed.

$48.... I've been away for the past month and just get a chance to check the forum and my email one in a blue moon type of thing... I will check my email later this evening...

The article looks promising..but I am still looking into other avenues to possible have these authenticated..

The ideal way would be to have chemical sample analysis of known lead items made from the tea chests the HB used in the 18th & 19th century for comparison to the analysis of these tokens..This would put this unknown factor to rest once and for all.....Either they are or they aren't... Thanks $48 will email you back....
