This is wild...I can still read the CN Journal entry you posted and when it speaks of an HB and the tokens being 'pierced' it just all makes sence to me. Well done..im convinced..how about taking them to the Royal Ontario Museum and seeing if they can provide a COA.

Thanks $48....This is page 1 of 4 of part 1 in the 2007 July / August issue of the RCNA. Part 2 & 3 is in the 2007 September & October issue with part 3 having the conclusion on these tokens.. I have emailed the RCNA to purchase these back order issues as I do not know what the final results are... I'm not going to get my hopes up too high as usually with my luck the bubble will get burst....

This is a fascinating thread. D, your photos sure seem to show a great reason for high hopes. I guess the weight is a bit off but probably within spec for such a crude token? Congats.

More good news... In a nut shell these tokens were sent to labs and experts from many different countries and 3 continents were involved with analysis. The chemical make up for the proper time frame, how they were made and several other factors were involved. The tokens I have are identical to the ones described in the HB artifacts issues. Their conclusion is as follows:

Now that is FREAKIN AWESOME D!! Very very cool. I'm pumped you figured it out. I mean, finding that article has taken this long. Very Rad man. I'm pumped for you! :D D, you should send them in to Todd @ BlueCC photos and get him to shoot them for you. With a known mintage of 31...... It seems worth the couple bucks to have them professionally photographed.

$48.... I've been away for the past month and just get a chance to check the forum and my email one in a blue moon type of thing... I will check my email later this evening...
The article looks promising..but I am still looking into other avenues to possible have these authenticated..
The ideal way would be to have chemical sample analysis of known lead items made from the tea chests the HB used in the 18th & 19th century for comparison to the analysis of these tokens..This would put this unknown factor to rest once and for all.....Either they are or they aren't... Thanks $48 will email you back....

It is funny how this thread works. Everytime I share these pictures with someone else in real life someone bumps this to the top. Yesterday I was in National Pride coin and stamp in Edmonton. I didn't share because I didn't get any sort of education on them. I didn't get much of an opinion on them at all.

Hi Guys,
Interesting thread you have going here. I co-authored the article mentioned here. It was printed over 3 issues in the CNJ (Canadian Numismatic Journal). I'm interested in early early HBC tokens. I would love to see a scan of the HB token mentioned here.
For anyone interested here's a link to my article. Sorry it's a big (14mb) file. It's how I presented the article to the CNJ. They reprinted it with few minor changes.

I've accumulated a lot of additional information since I wrote this article.

..to the forum Dneumann, glad to have you on board as your article certainly sheds alot more light on these HB artifacts. As discussed there is information in HB journals on casting lead symbols for the Cree language, HB reports on the treatment of natives by HB doctors etc.. But little to no information on the use and importance of trade currency used by the posts. For what ever reason this seems to be a grey area and hopefully with every ones help we can come to a positive conclusion...

The Cree have a decent written history back to 1850/60's thanks to the adaptation of the Ojibwe syllabary. There has been discussion that they used the new method to capture formerly verbal histories dating back quite some time.
Has anyone asked them? Especially those bands in central northern areas such as Moosonee ?
It occurs to me to be a good follow up point given the opportunity and is made all the easier by modern communication.
