I picked up Tuesday's newspaper yesterday morning.Came home and turned right to the classified ads. The second add under "For Sale"
read . . "For sale - coin collection, stamp collection, Bla, Bls, Bla".
I called imediatley and was told I had reached a number that had been disconnectd. Same thing the second time. And after one digit at a time slowley the third time, I found that the add was wrong.
While driving to town, intuition took me to the news paper's office where I told the clerk of the situation. S then informed me that there was a one number differance in the add and the receipt and gave m the number.
Called and met with a cool old guy out in the boon docks to see what he had to offer. What I found was this!
Several 3-ring binders. Two for Lincoln cents 1909 - 1958. Ove which I picked out a bunch of early 's' mint marks to buy. Next John handed me one with Liberty 'V's and Jefferson nickels - all dates and mint marks. Of these I was unfamiliar with any rare Date's MM's, or errors, so I just picked a few good condition coins. As it seems, I picked a couple of good ones!
He also haded me another binder with Halves and Eisenhower's. He also had some forein coins in good looks. Also in these loose stacks of Commemorative's and Silver coins. Of these I purchased all three Peace dollars. Gave $75.00 for these. They are One 1921, and two 1922's! ! ! All will go AU and up.
He wanted $800. for all but took five. Give me a bit on all these details as I'm going to go pick this fine batch up this morning and will go through them withopen eyes and research . Any request for any dates or MM's included with the list of binders I mentioned, I'll look them up and give you details and pictures.
Theres 'ALOT!' I venture to guess the three Peace dollars will pay for the lot when there sold. Any Buyers?
Oh, heres one of the three Indian Head nickel's. I never new the buffalo had a pointed horn till now. Awesome shape. Is this a Satin or brilliant finish by chance? ? Inquiering minds want to know ! ! !

Are you saying you think 3 Peace dollars is worth 500.00? I hope you aren't because you are horribly mistaken unless the 1921 is high grade or something

I Came to the conclusion the add was wrong by the fact that it was the first day the add ran and states so on all new add's. And the 21' has no ware at all, Just an overall satin or dull glare finish. as for the number of coins, several hundred to a thousand or so. It's a bunch for sure.
Any hints on what to look for that would be outstanding to find in the lot I described?

If you got several hundred to a thousand coins in the conditions that you describe for $500, then I say 'BRAVO'. The Peace dollars that you seem to be zeroed in on, should 'not' be your focal point however.

The nickel is AU and is a normal coin so I hope you didn't pay BU money for it. AU in late die state it's worth 6 to 8 bucks.
I don't want to appear rude, but it might be helpful for you to study some guides on grading so you don't get taken for a ride when you purchase coins.

I agree with foundinrolls there, but didn't you say that you got several hundred to a thousand or so coins for $500 ?
I rather doubt that the sale of three Peace dollars is going to cover your cash outlay though.

I have no idea what you purchased versus what you observed ...... and even less clues as to what you are asking for.

It would help us to help you Joe if you posted a list of coins you actually acquired in this 'great find' of yours ....

Photos would be good after the list!

Joe,

Here are some values if your grading is accurate and I am not so sure about that based upon your thoughts on the nickels.

If AU, a 1921 Peace dollar if it is uncleaned is a $175.00 coin. AU, 1922 Peace dollars from any Mint can be had for around $20.00 each. So those the coins won't come close to what you paid for the lot so hope you did better in the batch of whatever you got.

Thanks,
Bill

Do you own a Red Book? It might be one of your better investments.

Lets get some photos so we can better evaluate what you have purchased exactly and approximate value. That 1936 Buffalo appears to be an AU55 coin. The Red Book should be used as a guide only and not to evaluate coin pricing. Photograde may help you out to learn about grading. It takes time. Check out the grading forum on modern and classic coins.
