Only thing I can think of is that it was cleaned. Would that be the reason? It certainly in MS.

but I have seen other PC GS coins graded that have been cleaned and they simply note "clean"! I thought the same thing. Perplexing!

I would send it to ANACS, PCGS GENUINE sounds like a "stay away from me" label......ms-60 cleaned sounds better

PCGS never grades anything with "cleaned" on it, NGC does. here are PCGS codes
* 91 Artificially Colored
* 92 Cleaned
* 93 Planchet (Coin Blank) Flaw
* 94 Altered Surface
* 95 Scratched or Rim Dented
* 97 Environmentally Damaged
* 98 Other Damage
so yours isn't cleaned it has some other damage. You look at the number before the / and that is the code, yours is 98 so it is some other damage besides anything listed, not sure what is wrong but they deemed it a problem. It kind of looks polished but I would think that would fall under the "altered surfaces" category I would think

I agree with Bryan's assessment...the surfaces look too bright and reflective for a business strike (non proof) coin. It's still an attractive one though.

Could be, but when its a proof they usually put 'proof'

that would be my question, did they 98-ed it due to what ever, and basically body bag it there before thinking if was a proof?.....I'm just playing the devil's advocate here.. I like to learn and see what's happening... my opinions are like the whispers in the wind....

Not on GENUINE slabbed coins as far as I know. If it was cleaned in their opinion, it would be a code 92. This is 98. The edges, as far as I could see, look fine. What PCGS saw as "other damage" is with me. The fields do not look polished. They look original similar to a proof or a PL coin.

Hmm...I thought I had seen the 'proof' written there before, maybe thats on NCS coins only. It must make it really confusing in instances like this if they don't...perhaps they should start! If this is actually a proof coin I would agree that it does not look polished, but I just assumed it was business strike. It seems possible that there might be rim damage since no damage can be seen in the photo if there is indeed some 'damage'. The reverse especially has some pretty serious cameo going on though, which makes it a very appealing coin.

It's a gorgeous coin and hemisboats should be proud of it! Only speculation at this point as to why it came back "genuine". I also am pretty confident it's a biz strike.

I've never seen a business strike coin like this except in the modern special mint sets, I think. So I'd really like to know too.
