That's the real McCoy! In my experience, I have found them in pairs(meaning within a few days of each other)so keep your eyes open. I now have 8-98,2-2000 and 1-99 WAM. Just need that elusive 92.

A WAM is a wide "AM" in AMERICA.The space is wide between the A and the M.

Thanks John. The 'M' looks evenly spaced between the 'A' and the 'E' to me. I guess that I would have to see two differing coins side by side to tell the difference. You guy have got some EYES.

The difference is in the distance between the A and the M in AMERICA. Compare a pre-92 and a post-92. The difference is very distinct. Also comparing a normal 1998 to the 1998 pictured you'll see what we're talking about. On a non-WAM, the A and M are almost touching.

And there are MILLIONS of the Close AM for 98, 99, & 00. When you find a Close AM while roll searching, it can really brighten a crappy day. At least this one is not all beat up. One down, and four to go.

Ummmmmm.....I think that I have it now. I have never in my life looked at pennies before, but I can see how things could get interesting rather quickly. Thanks Dad.

Hey, if a penny can purchase someone's thoughts, surely it can brighten a crappy day.

Yeah, but I've go so many wild thoughts in 'my' mind, you wouldn't have to pay a penny for them, I would probably 'pay you' to take them.

Am I missing something here? Here is an auction for a 1992 Wide AM. Isn't that the common variety? http://cgi.ebay.com/1992-Wide-AM-1c...ed_W0QQitemZ a href= https://www.coincommunity.com/go/link.asp?target=https://www.ebay.com/itm/-/130362147920 target= _blank rel= nofollow 130362147920 /a QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item1e5a308450

That link takes you to the common cent for that year. My guess is that the seller thinks that because it's in a slab that someone will confuse it for the rare coin. Even the grade of the cent in the link does not warrant anything more than 10 cents for the coin in a retail setting.

This is why you have to be careful on ebay. There are many people who are good sellers but they unfortunately are terribly outnumbered by sellers who are relatively clueless.

Thanks,
Bill
