I can offer some help ... it's actually an 1864. I'm sorry I just couldn't help myself. Hopefully there will be some IHC experts around that know if that break is listed by Snow.

I like this one! For some reason, die breaks on the reverse are more frequent than the obverse. The cupronickel planchets were harder on the dies, and discontinued this year for bronze. There are only 3 RPDs for this year type--nothing spotted on yours.

Stev-E Wonder can see this one. LOL I have not seen anything on it. Is there a way to get a hold of Mr. Snow?

@twohawks--yep, it's a big die break Die breaks are not given Snow numbers. He's mostly focused on RPDs, MPDs, overdates, doubled dies and unusual die clashes.

Is this something listable? Or is it just really just a neat soon to be Cud? He lives about 100 mile south of me. I have some cc Morgan's we where going over. He just finished an update on Jan.21 and I have 8 in a series of the 1882cc type. It looks like his up-date will need to be up-dated again. The 1882cc Vam-3 thru Vam-3d may now end up with a 3e or hi will better classify the 3b type. Just for giggles do any of you have a 1884 cc Vam-9 That one has a dash under the second (8) If so please let me know. It looks like the 3rd and 4th Edition's are wrong. I need to see the mint mark.

Just a bump to to see if anyone has idea on this coin. I am so use to Vams that this type of break would be a listed type. Thanks

I just checked the latest guide, and there is NO listing of a die-break, unless it is part of the attribution of an MPD, or RPD. I see something, ()or think I do), on the lower right part of the "4". Can you provide a large close-up? I concur with DVCollector.

There was a defective punch used for 1864, which I believe shows up on the cross-stroke of the 4 in your example. with Dick--You can send it to Rick Snow, but he's just going to confirm it's a die break--they aren't considered varieties for IHCs.
