My guess is early stage environmental damage.

I saw this one on another forum.

Probably environmental damage.

Thanks,

My guess would be electrolyzing the coin, followed by 3-4 days in vinegar and then using tap water and a tooth brush to try and scrub it clean. It looks like they used a salt water and orange juice mixture and attached the clip to the star right next to the "m" in unum. You can tell that the coin was rotated so the date was farthest away from, what I'm assuming was, a stainless steal spoon. Furthermore when they first attached the spoon and coin to power, they hooked them up backwards. That "acne" on her face is exactly what you would find on the spoon after you pulled it out of the jar this whole process would take place in.

And the reason I said orange juice is because of the orange tint to the "toning" I would assume this was someones first attempt at this kind of experiment and the didn't submerge the coin very far so the "scum" that accumulates on top of the water (orange for orange juice, yellow for lemon juice, light green for lime juice) is sitting up against the coin tinging it that color.
