The coin store near to my house was robbed yesterday. Over 6,500 dollars worth of gold was taken from the store. I can't feel sorry for him because he was no different than the people that robbed him. He "stole" many a good coin from unknowing people including myself when I was just starting about 4 years ago.

Start roll searching like crazy... they will probably roll the coins and deposit them.. not caring if they are silver, or of numismatic value.

I seriously doubt they only stole 5-6 ounces of gold

Doubt me as you will but what I heard was they ran into the store, swiped what was on the counter, and ran for their lives. $6,500 was what was shown in the newspaper article so I assume they got the info straight from the dealer.

I have my own business cards floating around town in deli's, shops, etc and might get a call from the criminals.

Oh, well then, he will be getting caught. The CCTV security systems in most coin shops is about the same as stores that deal in diamonds. Filmed going in a 2 or more angles, filmed going out at at least 1 angle. All digital, high resolution, full color. I thought it was an "after business hours" robbery where the thief would have at least 3 minutes before having to worry about any kind of police response.

The cameras I remember looked like they were from the turn of the century.

Those CCTV cameras are very easy to beat though, especially around here. The devices are called ski masks.

Yea I was gonna say they probably were well versed at robbing. The town the store is in almost as bad as the worst areas of New York City.

They would have likely never made it out my local shop. Three guys working there ALL with side arms and not afraid to use them.
You should feel sorry for him regardless of how you think he may have under-paid you. Really, that's YOUR fault for not doing your homework before you sell. This is a victory for criminals, that's NEVER good IMO.

All I have to say is.....
THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS
Were that "my" store....they wouldn't have gone far !
In my city a couple of months back, a liquor store had an attempted robbery. Two men came in.......there was already one customer inside the store (he happened to have a license to carry a concealed weapon). These men had the clerk held up at gunpoint and then the citizen shot and killed one and wounded the other one. He was not fined or cited by the police.....nor was he an "off duty cop" or anything special......just a regular Joe in the right place at the right time. The owner of the liquor store was quite thankful for this "customer". Moral of the story is.......choose a life of crime......be ready to pay the price. Citizens and businesses should not have to be "prey" for these buffoons, drug addicts, and gangsters. This "plague of our society" needs to be put into check very badly.

... Badthad was typing his post at the same time.....needless to say, I agree with " arming yourself to protect your business or home". It's easy to be against guns when you've never been a victim of a crime.....much less a violent crime. And businesses who get robbed all the time, just really get sick of it. You're at the mercy of possibly being hurt or killed.....or a loved one hurt or killed.......friends...or it just happening constantly in your community.....this "plague" affects MANY Americans. Some people just prefer to be "pro-active" instead waiting for or complaining once they become a victim......(or their reletives go to their funeral because they had no way to protect themselves)

Amen to that eaglefoot! As most of you know, I am a CC permit holder and I'm ALWAYS packing. I don't like criminals and I guarantee, should we ever meet, they won't like me.

Amen...some people are so afraid of guns due to ignorance but they have their place, and yes I do own a couple myself. 2nd paragraph...you nailed it on the head. The comparison of getting ripped off for not knowing the value of the item you sell to the dealer to the dealer being the victim of a smash and grab is so far off base, I don't even know what to say. While it sucks that dealers out there take advantage of people, there is such a thing as "seller beware" as well. It's not just "buyer beware", and there are no excuses for not having a rough idea of the value of something these days. Even if you dont have internet at home, a few minutes at the library using their computers well help you determine what a fair price should be.
