I just picked this up for what I consider a very good deal! Now yes, this coin is at the very least, way overdipped, and probably cleaned. HOWEVER, it retains an absolute boatload of luster, with strong cartwheel action on both sides; which leads me to think the cleaning wasn't too harsh. Personally, I tend to think it was just overdipped, as the hairlines seem consistent with what I've seen on circulated silver, but I could be wrong. Opinions on grade? Wanna guess at the price?

was this coin purchased at a local dealer or coin show? Or, was this coin purchased on ebay?

There is something that doesn't feel right about the coin to me but it is probably just me.

As far as the grade, XF 40

Approximately $55

Tough call - the first thing to go in an overdipping is the luster. I'm inclined to think that more-benign chemicals (soap/water type stuff) were used to remove a "crusty" look, without actually interfering with mint flow lines. You can see the job wasn't quite perfect, around the date and between the rays and shield lines on the reverse. I'll bet it was a beautiful coin before the cleaning, to those of us who like that look.

Strong reverse, mushy obverse seems more like strike than wear. Easy AU50.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, it certainly is too white to be original, but it would look quite nice if it attained a bit of a tone to go with the luster. Maybe I'll leave it on a window sil for a while and see what happens. Even with a weak strike, I am quite pleased with it as I've had a hard time locating one of these for a decent price that still had substantial luster. I payed $62, and agree that it is a solid AU.
