I received this coin out of a roll of 2005D Bison nickels. It was very obvious it was different without magnification due to its color and texture.

Any ideas?

TY

Possibly out of a mint set, 2005 was the first year for the satin finish on the mint sets, I believe, so that could be what you have, I cannot tell from the pics.

Not out of a mint set. I had a new 2005 box of 50 mint rolls (all bison), which it came out of.

I got a mini bag (100 coins) of N Marianas quarters for each mint and about half of the Denver bag was satin finished coins. If they have an unequal number of satin finsh left over, do they just dump them in with regular circulation coins? It would be tough to mint exactly the same number of all the different coins from both mints, so there must be extras of some.

I was curious, could this have been a matte finished planchet that just happened to have gotten in with the mix?
