I bought a 1935 Lincoln Wheat cent its certified by ANACS as MS 65 RED. I need one for my album but I dont know whether I should take it out of the case, please give me an advise. Thank you! Edited by Podoprigora 02/04/2010 3:15 pm

Its not a key date where attribution is necessary but it may turn to a red brown once you crack it and put it in your album.
If this one is to nice for your album then leave it and find one that fits more consistently with the grade you are trying to assemble in your album.
If it was me and I bought it for my album I would crack it out.

I wouldn't take out a RED that old to put into an album unless that page in the album was going to be all RED.

Awesome,
This may be obvious to you, but keep the ANACS label. And years from now, if you need to liquidate you can have it on hand. Also, as I gather from the other's vast experience, you could later send it in to PCGS and likely get a MS67!

Yes I'm aware that you need to keep the label, but is there such a gap between PCGS and ANACS?

Quote: but is there such a gap between PCGS and ANACS? PCGS is probably *more* stingy than ANACS in giving a higher grade, not less. Oh, if you are going for red in album, crack that baby out!

Based on this thread: https://goccf.com/t/57144, I had come to think that ANACS was the more conservative grader. That said, the best advice in the thread was "buy the coin not the holder".

It's not a very expensive coin, nor is it a key, semi-key, variety or error. I say crack it and save the label.

I agree with Thad, crack the coin out and save the label. Quote:

I disagree. PCGS is generally thought to be more stingy that ANACS, especially on Modern coins. Whether or not ANACS is more stingier than PCGS, PCGS always will sell at a higher premium than coins graded by ANACS. I haven't studied many coins in those certain holders, so this is all just my opinion. Also, ANACS certified coins in the small white holders are usually more stricter than the ones in the newer holders. ANACS may be stingier than PCGS, but PCGS in my opinion will always be the favored company. You also have to judge every individual coin by its own merits. One coin may be the higher grade but another one might have more eye appeal and luster.
