"Very small" is a bit vague, and somewhat relative; a half-sovereign is 19mm in diameter, and I wouldn't call it "very small". Can we have a diameter in mm, please?
Judging from the pic, it doesn't seem to have a rim. It's either a sovereign or half-sovereign that's been clipped, or it's a piece of play money, or perhaps one of those gold "miniatures" that were popular some years ago. If it really is tiny, then I suspect it's the latter, and not a genuine coin.
