Interesting piece I am watching online..

The only information I could find is related to the Austro-Prussian War in 1866..

Could this be authentic from 1866 and have some thing to do with the war? Thanks in advance..

The date on the piece (4 Nov 1866) refers to the day when Habsburg/Austria returned the Crown of Lombardy. Here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_...Independence is some info about the Austrian-Italian war, without the date though. But see the reference to the Iron Crown near the bottom - in the Italian version http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terza_...#Conseguenze you can read that "Il 4 novembre 1866 I Savoia ebbero consegnata dagli Asburgo la Corona Ferrea (...). So that would be the historic significance, I suppose.

Whether the piece is authentic I don't know. Seems it was intended to be used as a decoration or so, with maybe a name to engraved in the empty area in the center ...

Thanks chrisild, .. Italian transulation is:

" 4 November 1866 the Sovoia had delivered from the Asburgo the iron crown already used by the kings Lombards, by the emperors of the scared Roman Empire Germanic and by the same Napoleon Bonaparte all in the king d\' italy. The Crown returned to its historic location in the Cathedral of Monza"

Now it is self explantory: the crown being returned to Monza in northern Italy Nov. 4th 1866 is a historic event.

This piece would be authentic to commemorate the event BUT when it was made is still questionable. More research required...

Thanks again for your help....
