Which one of these goals should I accomplish first. (keep in mind on my low money situation. A. Collect the whole set of 1/2oz australian lunar (not proof) coins. Up untill 2006. (after that I would go to one of the others untill the next year comes out. B. A. Collect the whole set of 1oz australian lunar (not proof) coins. Up untill 2006. (after that I would go to one of the others untill the next year comes out. C. Collect the whole set of 2oz australian lunar (not proof) coins. Up untill 2006. (after that I would go to one of the others untill the next year comes out. The I probably will never take a stab at the kilo set lol unless I see 1dollar silver ! The following website is where I intend to buy them. They get cheaper by the day lol. http://www.jtcoins.com/products.asp?id=5Edited by coolg35748 06/11/2006 7:14 pm

if you are looking at set on getting the Aussie Lunar set. I personal think it is a beter for you to buy the 1 oz set mainly because if you every deside not to collect anymore it will be the easist set to move. more would buy the 1 oz over the 1/2 oz. just my opion. don't forget there is alway the ASE set as well which is a great set to collect as well. or the Kookuburra which are my favirote Aussie Silver Dollar.

I want to eventually collect all includign the 1/2oz, 1oz, and 2oz. I just need to know what to start out on right now money wise. The 1/2oz is affordable and so is the 1oz the 2oz I am not so sure about.

djluster has a very good point. I'm also a middle of the road person and 1 oz is just that. Perhaps you may want to look at the value trends of the lunars so far (all sizes) as well as # minted of each as well as what you prefer and like.
Let me give you an example of a mistake I made several years ago that may make sense to you. I had a 1 karat diamond. I traded it in for a 3/4 karat better quality diamond. When I decided to sell I was told that the full karat would still have brought a higher price because of the size and not the quality - even though I had paid more for the 3/4. My point is that the larger less quality was the better investment in the long run due to demand.
I realize that diamonds and coins are different items but, my point is that sometimes larger is better. Perhaps that's why I'm leaning towards the middle of the road with the 1 oz vs the smaller 1/2 oz.
If you can afford the 1 oz I would say go for it however, do your research first since I believe you are interested as an investor as well as a collector.

I would collect the 1 ounce Lunar coins, because that's what I have done, and they are very attractive. Also, consider the ASE, and the Canadian Maple Leafs. The Britannias are also beautiful coins.

The Aussie Lunar series is a very nice set of coins and that site you provided is one I am going to check out. The 1oz is a good size to collect and if you check out http://www.perthmint.com.au you can check out what else they do with this theme like guilding and colorizing. The Perth Mint are the ones who produce this series. The Brittania silver coins are not one that I have ever thought about until now and after having checked them out am going to have to add a couple to my collection..ohhh my poor hip pocket...lol so many silver coins.

I'd agree the 1oz coin is always the most popular. But let me add that you need to have at least one of the "two ounce" coins. The size and weight is so impressive even to the non-collector.

The current inventory of silver coins may be reflective of the high spot price of a couple of weeks ago. Once this current inventory is depleted the coins should reflect the lower current market. Once this "Market adjustment" is over and bullion increases again then the coins should increase in cost and value. This is the joy of the spot World markets. A closer eye on the markets helps collectors/investors to know when to hold, buy and sell. Hope this helps your decision making process and an understanding of why coins "get cheaper by the day" as you said.
