I have only a few old relics. the thing is where can you buy them without spending to much? several ebay sellers are approaching the $2 bucks per coin and most are going to be very corroded anyway..I can agree its going to take some time, but a few years I might not be alive? LOLOL.. not that they have to be cleaned yesturday...I thought It would be nice to get some and see what happens without doing the ebay "UNSEARCHED" crap gold found(there buddies post)...any ideas?
thanks

I bought mine (in the other thread) from an ebay auction, but the guy has a website where he sells them also. Here's the site:
http://www.ancientromantimes.com/index.html
He seems like a pretty honest seller...definitely not one of those "GOLD FOUND!!" guys that's trying to scam you. You'll see actual pics of the coins you'll receive. He sells different levels...higher quality with details already showing and lower with mystery coins in the dirt/crust.

I'm happy with my purchase. They were cheap...about $1 or so per coin. Delivery was pretty quick. He answered my questions before I bid (I was deciding between buying from the website or his ebay auctions).

The coins themselves (that I got) are probably not going to be anything spectacular, but they're what I wanted to try this for the first time. If I ever decide to do it again, I'll probably spend a little more and go with someone like Purse of the Legionary:

Bigger coins, more detail, etc...you're going to spend more up front, but likely will end up with better coins once they're cleaned.

I bought mine from commonbronze.com. Al thought their site seems o be down now. the best thing, when I order 30 coins I receive more like 40. And they have the best prices I have found(bout a $1.50 a coin, and have very good coins at $7. you could try emailing them at sales@commonbronze.com

"Gold found!" is not necessarily the sign of a shill - some buyers actually think they've found a genuine ancient gold coin.

- The buyer simply assumes yellow metal = gold. Many people don't realize that brass is not a modern invention - the ancient Greeks and Romans sometimes made brass coins. Some less scrupulous dealers take an ancient brass coin and clean it until it's golden and shiny, fooling the newbies into thinking it's gold.

- Some slightly more scrupulous sellers buy bulk lots of tiny mediaeval Indian gold fanams - little tiny flakes of gold turned into a coin, they're only worth a few dollars each - and use them to salt their uncleaned lots. That way, people can genuinely say they "found gold". Not ancient gold, and not particularly valuable either, but still gold.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
