Kushan Empire Gold Coin(?). Approx 1.9 cm in diameter at 3 grams. I have purchased this item but have yet to receive it. If it's a token/fake/?, well, I didn't pay much for it and time was a wastin' so I didn't do my usual due diligence. I have seen some examples in my books(not this one though) but not all varieties are listed. Sap... if you're there...

I don't have a comprehensive Kushan catalogue either, but I have to say, I'm worried. A Kushan gold coin should not be available at an "I didn't pay much for it" price; genuine examples are a minimum of several hundred dollars. Have a look at CoinArchives for some examples, and the prices they fetched (I won't link to specific coins, since CoinArchives links expire after a few months, but there should always be a dozen or two search hits in the accessible section). Yours purports to be a Huvishka stater (or dinar) with Mithra on the reverse.

This one's appearance also worries me; it looks... melted... and parts of the surface appear to have a porous, cast-like texture. Finally, and it could just be an effect of the way it was imaged, there appears to be a seam around the rim, visible on the reverse (bottom) pic.

It looks like a cast copy to me. Check out this site http://www.nupam.com/kushan1.html it lists a number of kushan gold coins. There is one there that looks like yours.

Thank you both for the info and the legwork of getting it. I will look more closely soon. I 'spose it's light weight, compared to most of the authentic coins in the links provided, make it some sort of medallion/token/jewelry piece.

If it were 3 grams of 14kt gold, regardless of it's authenticity, then it would be of fair value to me. The seller (from Thailand) also had "dug" silver coins and I was hoping the surface of this coin was that way from being buried.

Anyway, any loss suffered is minimized. The listing was so far off being correctly catagorized that I was probably the only one that ticked over the viewer counter.

Back to the weight of 3 grams at 19 mm... were there any Kushan/dracm near that small size? If not, then the item was clearly not meant to deceive... like those giant modern pennies cents etc produced. I have no regrets and I haven't even received it yet... looks nice and all.
