Got a couple of grab bags from my local dealer for $8.95 each, and as usual, got much more in return, including the following gems among the commoner stuff:

US 1865 2-Cent Piece - my first! Yes, it's got some wear, especially in the scroll above the shield, but the date is nicely legible;

Germany 1925A 3 Reichmarks Commemorative: Tiny like a Canadian 5-Cent Silver, but very little wear; I didn't even know what it was until I checked it out in the magnifying glass;

Finland 1898 5 Pennia: Issued under Russian rule, with Nicholas II's monogram on the back;

AND THIS, which I find online is a 1910 10-Cent piece form China. This is not a picture of the one I have (scanner down right now), but mine matches this one exactly, character for character:

Can any of our collectors of Chinese coins tell me more about it? According to the website I got the pictures from, this one is supposedly worth a few bucks. What I love about it is that the picture of the dragon is something out of the ordinary, not being sprawled around the outside edge of the coin.

WpgLwr- I must admit that I have never seen a Chinese coin with this type of reverse. In addition, the characters look a bit odd in form to me. So this may be a charm of some sort, but I may be wrong,. Either way, I don't think that it is a normal Chinese coin.

Sounds like an exceptional value especially if the conditions are nice. My dealer doesn't have such grab bags. Very cool!

Weren't all 3RM the size of a half dollar (approximately, of course)?

The inscription at the top of the coin in the image says "xuan tong 3 year" which would be the 3rd year of the reign of Emperor Puyi. This would date the coin as 1911 instead of 1910.

The characters in the middle are "da qing yin bi" which means "Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty silver coin".

The inscription at the bottom is "shi mei huan yi yuan" which translates as "10 coins exchange for one yuan (dollar)".

The reverse side inscription is "yi jiao" which means "one jiao" (10 cents).

Unfortunately, I do not collect this type of Chinese coin so I am unable to identify further or help authenticate.

China 10 cents: listed in Krause under Empire - standard coinage, KM/Y# 28. Listed at $75 in EF. It was planned to be the new Empire-wide design for silver coinage, but the Empire collapsed shortly after it's introduction.

There is a scarcer variant, listed under Hunan Province - Transitional Coinage, KM/K# 762, $900 in EF; that coin has two additional characters where the dots are to the left and right on the obverse.

The German 3 reichsmark is no doubt a "play money" miniature.

Wow, that is actually a real coin!? Well, I learned something today. Awesome info, Sap!

WpgLwr- Sorry if I had you feeling discouraged for a moment there regarding your coin. I'm glad that that is real!
