That is odd considering that it has the higest mintage out of the rest of the series.

I too would love to know the answer. perhaps it is one of the 'typos' that are in the Krause catalogs. Folks have complained about these types of things in the past usually the other way around though

I sent a note to a contact at Krause to ask him about this. His response was the pricing was correct and not a typo. He did give me another contact who specializes in Mexican coins as a reference and suggested I send him a note. (he must be a contributor to Krause's catalogs). Anyway his comment was it has really always been a more scarce date regardless of the mintage numbers. He suggested as a guess that much of the mintage never made it into circulation or that by mid-80s a 'roll collecting' craze of Mexican coins was over and thus they simply weren't being collected and thus fell out of circulation that way.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that they didn't really circulate all that much in the public, leading to possible hoarding? Consider that this coin was only minted for 3 years, from 1985-1988. There's already a $5 coin in circulation and in 3 years they will have devalued the peso x1000. After 1991 this coin is basically worthless so they must've been tucked away by collectors and the public. Would it be fair to say that this denomination also doesn't get heavy international trade? That's my guess, but they're fairly easy to come by, that's my only concern. I see them for sale for $5. They're worth less than the most worthless coins yet they can fetch $5 dollars. Weird.
