Because of that thickness difference, the curved area of the first strike is protecting the starred area of the second strike so it has received less overall wear in that area. Still, it is amazing that an error like that could have circulated down to EF. Maybe an old-time collector carried it as a pocket piece, not too implausible considering one of the 1913 V nickels was once carried as a pocket piece Report this Post to the Staff
