Tunnioc,

Nice score, you lucky DOG!! I combed the local banks for Ike dollars about 3 weeks ago. No dice. The tellers at the banks I went to all acted like they had not had any Ikes in a long time.

Just scored '71 and '72 silver proofs still in their mint-issued coffins for $27.01 on ebay!
Very nice!

I went to a different branch of my bank and asked if I could please get a roll a half dollars. This is what I received!
Bonus!

Nice finds Chuck YeeHa

On second look isn't that 74 D "R" an Eskimo Boot ?

Mach1, Great Pick up cant wait to see them.

Tunnioc, What can I say if I found a roll of 71 D's at the bank
for face I would probably have a heart attack Especially in the
condition yours are in. Congratulations.

Chuck, A quick question. How long did you look at Tunnioc's pictures
of the 71 D roll and how far did you blow up the picture looking
for FEV's and our DDO DDR ?
As long as I did? 15 minutes

Mach1: Great collection! nice pics .

Terry,

I did try to spot a FEV or DDO but not 15 minutes- you need help my friend (LOL)!

Regarding the 74D Peg-Leg, can there be Eskimo Boot R's on 74 D's?

I thought the Eskimo boot was only on a 74S Proof, help me out here Terry.

On a different note,
I just won an E-Bay auction yesterday on a ANACS- MS65 1971S Silver Uncirculated DDO-004/DDR021 "4-21"

It was mailed out this morning and I'll post pics when I have the coin in hand.

I have to admit I'm pretty excited about winning this DDO / DDR, especially from reading about this DDO / DDR in the Ike Book (Chapter 13). I knew I'd probably never "Find" one in the bag searching etc, so I was very happy to see one up for auction on E-Bay.

On bag searching yesterday, I found another 72P Type 2 "August" and another 74D Major Peg leg, just havn't posted pics as I had a very good 2 days of Half dollar searching and found a real nice mixed assortment of Silver Halfs, including a 1909 BARBER!

You are right about the 74 S Proof Eskimo Boot being the
known variety.
The only reason I mention it is because the picture reminded
me of the Eskimo Boot.
And we do have another Ike that has the same type of variety
across two different metal compositions
The 74 S 40% Silver Proof Micro S and the
74 S Copper Nickel clad Micro S
I was was at an antique shop with a small coin shop inside
checking out coins while the wife and her friend were antique shopping and I ran across a 74 S proof in a 2x2
I looked at it and saw the micro S but could not see
the edge to check and see if it was silver.
Got it home and cracked it out and it was copper nickel
clad. Thought bummer but it got me thinking and I put it
away. Fast forward a few months and Brian Vaile
ran across the same thing and got to thinking also
and sent his to Dr. James Wiles and it was determined
that they were from the same die.
Now an already rare variety (Silver Micro S)
seems is even more rare as is the copper nickel clad
Micro S because you can only get roughly 10,000 proofs
from one die. now that is split amongst two metal
compositions.
I am not saying it is an Eskimo Boot but I am questioning
whether the same polishing operation that created the
proof Eskimo Boot on the proof happened to be used
on a regular circulation die creating the same thing
on another coin. They are from the same year.
That is what I love about this series of coins.
As we know VERY well. Not all the variety discoveries
have been made yet. When I see something out of place
or different on an Ike I always question it and as Rob
says "through some mud on the wall and see what sticks"

4/21
Yee ha congratulations I still have not had the luck to
find one yet.

Those bags are being very good to you The type 2 and
harder to find 74 D Peg Leg way too cool

Congrats on adding to the Silver Stack and A Barber
bonus.

it seems it it getting harder and harder to find silver
in the wild anymore for me I have not seen any in my area in
quite some time I think I have other silver searchers
around me and Ike hunters. both are hard to find around
here

Terry

PS do not know how this whole post got in a quote
or how to fix it I hope everyone gets the idea though
