Since I am assuming all the IKE expert are on here, I have a question about IKE coins but no photo to share: I received an offer for a "complete set of Ike dollars 1971-1978 with proofs, $120.00" in a Dansco Album. Since I am not an expert on IKE and not familiar w/ the pricing, what do you all think? Is it worth the try? I haven't have a chance to meet up and see the album yet.

PS: I'm sorry for posting here, but I think I would get more direct answer here. I promise if I buy the set, I'll share the pictures. Thanks.

If it's a complete set and in BU condition (32 coins) including all Silver and Proofs, $120.00 is an excellent price.

Sets like these are going well over $200.00

Here is a 32 coin set right now for sale on ebay:

Good Luck.

I agree, $120 is an excellent price for the 32 coin set, especially if graded well. I would still want to see it first, though.

Nice Dollars, buggs!

Whoa! I would avoid that set! That is an old Harco album. Going by the final printed date (1973), I guarantee that album was made before they stopped using PVC pages.

Jbuck:

I had no intention of purchasing the album, but thanks for the HEADS-UP on the condition/age etc! Never paid much attention to the Album itself, but will from now on!

My new favorite IKE...1971-S Peg Leg..CherryPicker's # FS-401...maybe it was the BIN price(43 bucks--WHAT were they thinking? This is a $350-$400 IKE, in "Theory"--remember when these first popped up in the market! Now there available for $60 on up..), or, maybe it's the scarce Doubled Die Reverse...there are many Die Pairings for the 71-S BS IKE..some have a "Weaker" Peg Leg, 1 coupled with a Doubled Die Obverse, and 1 with a non-Doubled Obverse, and 2 different Reverses, 1 Doubled, 1 not, and, a "Stronger" Peg Leg, with a common(non-Doubled) Obverse, and a minor Doubled Die Reverse...this particular coin is the latter..."Stronger" Peg Leg, DDR...hopefully IKES eyes won't follow anyone on the pics tonight(see previous listing)..more about these in the new IKE GROUP Book "Collectible IKE Varieties, Facts, Photo's & Theories", 2011, Lulu Press...by the way, if you are a true IKE NUT, like me, do yourself a favor, and order one of the Limited Edition Sets(100 copies made, that's it, maybe less when all orders finished),(only available until 12/31/11) in Hardcover, with CD, and, signed card by all of the Ike Group Members..it is downright stunning....(Volume II out next year)

My FIRST 1971-S FS-501...yippee....the coin God's were smiling on me the other day...ebay auction...4 coins...crappy pics...$7.99 for all 4, I was the only bidder, and won...saw the S on the first pic, so, I knew I was ahead of the game with just 1 coin....ALL 4 turned out to be 40% Silver....3---71-S, and 1 73-S...just a lucky hit, this RPM...there are die marker's obverse, 4 parallel clash lines running off the T in TRUST, and above the 1(see the new IKE BOOK for pics, or, go to the Ikegroup.org site)..the RPM itself is a weak one, but, PCGS does list it, as it's in the Cherry Pickers Guide as FS-501...nasty gash obverse, but, I'll take one of these any day..

After picking up two silver PR69DCAM Ikes (71 and 72) for $12 each, I found these little guys! I paid about $20 each! MS64, MS67, and PR69DCAM.

cc99999,
Very nice pick ups

One little thing that might be worth checking for on the 74 "S" Proof is the Type 1 mint mark.
It is a one die coin. In which the same die was used on two different metal composition coins.
Both the 40% Silver and the Copper-Nickel Clad.
Estimated life expectancy of a Proof Eisenhower Die 10,000
coins. Split between two separate metal composition coins.
Here is a link to an article about the 74 S Micro "S" Ike
It was written before the discovery that the same die was
also used on the Copper-Nickel Proofs

thanks for the tip. It looks like MMS-2C... but it's hard to say for sure since I only have a 10x loupe.

Stewart..if you had not posted that reference to the IkeGroup's Micro-S MM, I wouldn't have checked my 74's again...I did...my very rare 74-S Clad "Eskimo Boot" Peg Leg(which is photographed in the "Mud Room" special edition section of the New Ike Book(Lulu Press), ALSO is a Micro S MMS-1(Wiles)...a double whammee IKE..I'll reshoot both aspects again, and post....this puppy is going to Anacs next week...they stated they will NOT use the nickname "Eskimo Boot", and use "Peg Leg"...the Ike Group proposes that these have a class A B & C.....I recently sold off what I now know as a class B, with a smidge of a serif on the left foot, thinking it wouldn't fly, wish I had it back...better start hunting for more...they are hard to find...this is my 1 and only, in 7 years of hunting.

Congratulations Calvin,

That is how I found both of my 74 S MMS-1 Ike's Both the 40% Silver
Just happened across the article on the Ike Group web site a couple of years ago about the 40% Silver MMS-1
and decided to check the safe and there one was. One of my very favorite coin collecting days.
Then the same thing when Brian Vaile sent a 74 S MMS-1 Cuni-Clad to John Wexler
and they determined that they were minted with the same dies as the 40% proof.
Can't wait to see your pictures.
I Love finding exceedingly rare coins already in the collection
