I have a striated planchet from a mint set. It's lined on only one side. Is that how they usually are?

- Jim

Jim,
my experience and knowledge with planchet striations is very limited
I am not sure what is usual when it come to this subject.
I think CC99999 might have a better idea about the subject.
He has just given me a few ideas in the above post about the subject.
Sorry I can't be more helpful

I won this 72S Proof Ike on ebay last week.

Although not attributed as a FS101 on the PCGS label, it was advertised at being the 101.

What do you think, make it as the 101?

*I don't see any die scratch markers in the ear.

I'm also looking very close at this peg-leg R.

It looks a little different from the normal 72S Proof peg legs. the bottom of the r looks like its tapering off then expanding near the base again, like an hour glass.

Any help is appreciated.
Chuck.

* I posted this also over on the Ike Group Forum*

Here are some pics.

your proof has nice doubling, but the FS-101 is a TDO. your piece is not an FS-101. Nice DDO variety nonetheless.

Here are two really nice pieces that I added recently. Anyone care to guess the grades?

Very nice!

Most know I "grade" on eye appeal alone, so I will just call them worthy.

I'm guessing you have a couple of premium MS66's there. Am I correct?

that is correct. I gave up quite a bit in trade for them... and I'm thinking of trading them together for another Ike if I find one I like.

Chuck,
Really like the look of that "R" on that 72S Proof Ike
Those split serifs are very nice also.

Charles,
Very nice pair of 66's

I thought most of the 72-S DDO's were, or are under consideration for De-Listings and changed to MDD...of course, this "rumor" is well over 1 year old, and, nothing yet...there is a LOT of $$$$$ involved, thus, politics...people in places I don't deal with, and controversial to say the least...I guess what I'm saying is I'm not about to be spending any money on these until the dust settles...there are at least 5 attributors, and, probably 5 different opinions as to what is what anymore...a state of flux, leave it at that. Wiles' Coneca booklet explains the types better than anyone else, IMHO, and, while dated 1992 I believe, the definitions hold strong...worth finding a copy for any IKE variety collector.

Terry:

Thanks, that R looks very strange.

ilikeikes:

I won the coin for $36.00 so it was not a very expensive lay-out.

This is the only 72 S that I have. I usually stay with the 71 S Ikes for DDO'S/DDR'S etc.

Regarding the so called de-listing of the 72S DDO's- was that for both the BS and Proofs?

I agree, there is going to be a lot of money involved if that happens.

The ARED ( 2nd edition, 2007) has 13 1972S DDO'S listed.(Bus Strike and Proofs.)
plus the infamous 1972 S DDO-MD-(No Premium value)

ARED (2nd edition) shouldn't be used as a reference as it has been disowned by Wexler.

I have to say I have no luck with these forum. I must be crazy or so non-conformist that I can't fit anywhere.

I posted 3 messages to this forum and one was considered a violation, the Kak Coin that I introduced. I have no idea what possible violation of the rules I made and despite sending an email, I hstill haven't gotten a response :(

These forums are wearing me out.

Here's a 1973 FS-101 DDO. Frosting is a little light, making it a CAMEO.
