1970 Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ? - Coin Community Forum

kirbylj New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 06/14/2006 3:44 pm I know of the 1970 s DDO. Anyone ever heard of a 1970 d DDO? Found this one in an unopened mint set. Take a look at the pic.Anyone else think it is a doubled die? doesn't look like Strike Doubling to me. Possible Strike Doubling on LIBERTY. But I dont believe it is Strike Doubling on the date. coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 06/17/2006 1:01 pm There are a number of doubled dies known for 1970 cents from all three mints, including proofs. All together there are over 50 different dies known. The coin posted does not appear to be a doubled die from the images provided, but I do agree that it would take much more detailed images to tell for sure. One thing worth note about 1970 cents is that this particular year is one of the most prolific in the entire series for worthless Machine Doubling. 1970 is topped only by the two previous years in the number of 'reported' doubled dies that turn out to be Machine Doubling. For this reason, and for the reasont hat I cannot detect anything that even resembles possible doubling in the images, I would have to say the coin is not a doubled die without having better images or the coin in hand.
