Just wanted to present a variety o a French 50 centimes coin.
In general the title is written ROI DES FRANçAIS but on this coin the cedille is missing on the C.
This variety is known for 1845 but not yet for 1846.

Gadoury doesn't mention cedillae,

He says, 1845 had five different mintmarks (A, B, BB, K, & W), and there were two reverse legends: "1/2 FRANC"; and "50 CENT". That's ten varieties for the one year.

He says 1846 had the same five mintmarks, but there was only one reverse legend: "50 CENT".

My interest lies a few decades earlier, and I just a novice there ...

Hi Peter,

I am mostly using the other French catalogue "Le Franc VIII".
They are only mentioning A, B and W for the 1/2 franc and B, BB, K and W for the 50 centimes coin of 1845.
But in addition to that, they mention the 1845B coin without cedille.

Here's a picture of another coin with the cedille.

thankyou: I'll be looking out for a copy of "Le Franc" - it seems to have more detail than Gadoury.
I only collect French coins upto 1815, so I doubt that I need a recent edition.

Neat variety! Wow.
If you're only going so far as the Napoleonic coins, Le Franc is probably not a high priority. It starts with 1st Republic franc denominations and goes through to the last francs of this decade.
What I like about the book--I have an earlier edition--is that it provides brief narrative information about most of the types and varieties.
