For what it's worth, I'm glad to see this topic--not for nefarious reasons, but because my son and I were talking just the other day about how this type of thing could make a good science fair project. I've seen many science fair projects, but the only coin-related ones I've seen have been about cleaning pennies.

Showing a naturally toned coin along with the results of various artificial attempts would help him to maintain his numismatic integrity.

If you try some used college book stores for used Chem books, you may find some really interesting experiments with Copper. On TV somewhere there is a show called She's Crafty. On it this lady used a Copper sheet to make some interesting photo type items. They ended up with a sort of photo of something embedded in Copper placed on a Toned Copper sheet background. It was placed in a dish with cereal, salt and Venigar. Sure wish I copied the entire procedure.
For various types of toning effects it should be well worth the time to use the many, many methods already noted on this forum in the past. There have been many mentions of burying a coin in dirt, heating over a gas stove, placing inside a hard boiled egg, soaking in dish soap and allowing to dry in the Sun, spit, table salt and soda pop and even some not to be mentioned methods here.
Some work and some don't. Some really mess up a coin too.
As to a source for Sulfur I did my usual and just typed in Sulfur for sale in Google. Naturally thousands of results but only a few that acutally sold Bulk Sulfur. One made me laugh since they had 50, 100 and up pound bags of the stuff for sale. First thing I wondered would be exactly what government agency would be monitoring the sale of 500 pounds of Sulfur?

I've got some sulfur,so I'm gonna try this experiment. I have a small bowl that has the bottom rounded up so that an Ike dollar will balance itself. I put just a little sulfur arond the edges and sealed the bowl. I will check out the Ike in 1 month for any changes. By the way, I bought the sulfur at my local pharmacy.
