Hey gang,

I need help identifying these larger medals. Also, whether or not they are reproductions. Value would be nice as well, just do what you can.

Thanks in advance!

#1. Ulysses Grant medal. Roughly 75 mm diameter. 7-1/2 mm thick without including raised detail.

#2. Mozart. Roughly 55 mm in diameter. 3 mm thick without including raised detail.

#3. A French medal I believe. It is in a "Monnaie De Paris" box. Roughly 72 mm in diameter. 6 mm thick without including raised detail.

#4. Victor David Brenner. "Abraham and Victor" medal. Roughly 75 mm in diameter. 5 mm thick without including raised detail.

I found a reference to the Grant Medal, Julian# MI-29, Listed as 1863 U.S Grant, Civil War Victories, Silver medal 105 MM, artist: Paquet. Valued at $30,000 in MS-63. Yours is smaller and doesn't look sliver. Could be a later issue in bronze.

The Mozart medal looks orginal for 1896, sorry no info on this one.

The French medal looks like a copy, if the word bronze is stamped on the edge it's later than 1823.

The last medal, could be orginal but it's hard to say if it's been closed in the box it hasn't toned any.

They are all very beautiful, I wouldn't mind having them in my collection. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Hi, as for the Mozart medal, on the reverse it mentions about the mozart statue in Vienna(Wien:vienna and denkmals:monument and zur:to), and was unveiled in 1896 to the public. As for history of this medal I'm not to sure, apart from the possibility it could be a commemorative coin for the statue?

The text says "Zur Enthüllung seines Denkmals - Wien 1896". So the medal was issued to commemorate the unveiling of his monument in 1896. This photo (taken around 1900) shows the monument at the original site; in 1953 it was "translocated" to the Burggarten and rebuilt there. http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php...ien_1900.jpg The puttos on the medal can also be found at the bottom of the monument.
