Found my first 1972 double die yesterday. I think it's a 1DO-006 but I'm not sure. It could be an 008. I can't find any other die markers. Any thoughts?

By the sharpness of the strike on the reverse, I think this is probably EDS. Coppercoins doesn't list any markers for EDS in either of those varieties.

Thank You,

Matt

Matt:

Hard to tell from your pics.

I found a 006 last year- here are a few pics of the die-marker on the coin I found that matches perfect with coppercoins 006 by the lower right of the Memorial.

Anyway of getting a real close-up picture of this area to see if this die marker is there?

Chuckster - here's the best I can do. I'm having trouble getting a clear close-up of the reverse and my camera batteries just died.

1972-LMC-1-DO-006?

In hand, the lettering on the reverse is extremely crisp, and the surface is very smooth (except for marks from circulation). I think this is an EDS specimen that hadn't developed die scratches, yet.

Other than the doubling, which looks very similar from 006 to 008, none of the other die markers are evident.

Matt;

If I may suggest, try sending you info/pics to Mr.Piazza (Coppercoins) for his expertise etc on this.

Maybe he can spot something from your pics or might even request to see the coin in hand etc for a closer analysis.

Here is his E.Mail Address.

Good Luck!
