Dime Roll Searching

Box 19 yielded:

1946 and 1964d Rosies and a 1935 Mercury in horrendous condition. I had to use a microscope to tell the date.

I also found what may be a silver Rosie but it has multiple abrasions on it, two of which wipe out the date on the front and any possible mint mark on the back. Is there any way to tell if a Rosie dime is silver when it lacks the date and any possible back mintmark on the back?

JonNickelCollector, Silver will weigh in the neighborhood of 2.5 grams, clad will weigh in the neighborhood of 2.27 grams.

there's also a "ring" test, see if there's a different sound to it compared to clad, can also look at the edge under a magnifier and look for signs of copper in the edge, if no copper it's silver.

If the coin is missing date and mint mark and you aren't worried about numismatic value, I'd say hit it with some liquid jewelry cleaner and see what happens. if it's clad it's a $.10 coin still, if it's silver it's bullion value still and they won't care if it's cleaned.idea would be to get the reded edge cleaned up so you can clearly see if its white silver or a pinkish coppery color.

Box #20 yielded a 1961 in the first roll.

What is amazing is that after 6 boxes, I had only found one silver dime, and now after 20 boxes, I have found 19 silver dimes, including 7 Mercuries.

I want to thank those of you who encouraged me not to give up after the first six boxes.
