Murrell, do you know what carrier brings your boxes? Also how much do you average in coins? where is your best luck? I do two boxes of halves a week and one box of dimes a month. Not much luck with any of them. You?

i search nickels mostly and recently got into dimes. havent had courage for halves yet. but out of 6 boxes of dimes I have 8 silver roosevelts. so that's at least 1 per box which I am happy about because halves people get skunked all the time. I believe loomis is the carrier that brings the coins, and I get them from wells fargo.

well I think it is all loomis in san diego. our boxes don't say brinks on them, and several times I have seen loomis trucks near my wells fargoss.

$175 of Customer Wrapped rolls from citizen's--I was going to get the cwr halves they had but someone took them-shoulda got them last week.  Nice pickings: Silver: beat up 64, plus a 63D 2 canadians 1 five pence 1 1970 1/2 franc 2 2009D 1 2009P Not bad. Now onto the pennies... |

I'm new to roll hunting, and tried half dollars, quarters, and pennies with no luck. Finally, I went by the bank yesterday for dime rolls. I cracked one open, and right away found a silver '64! I work at a store with a Coinstar, and checked it this morning, but found nothing but bent and sticky pennies. I walked by it a couple hours later, and checked again. Just one coin was in the tray, a '46 dime! Two silver dimes in less than 24 hours; not bad for a first day. Tonight, since the banks are closed, I put most of the clad dimes (except for some key dates) in a Coinstar, and then cashed them in for more dimes. The clerk thought I was crazy!  Edited by CPC24

You will probably find that dimes give you the best luck. Quarters are almost all clad, thus the quarter roll searching thread is 7 pages long. Halves have produced a ton for many folks over the past years but rising silver prices are destroying silver pools. Just read the first few pages of the half thread and compare it to the last. Many of those guys have pulled thousands of silver coins and cool stuff.  Pennies and nickels are less about the money and more about the key dates. These are a favorite because they are relatively cheap and you can find a lot of old stuff sometimes. Its common to find a Buffalo nickel within 2-3 boxes of nickels. Also there are a ton of varieties to look for in these denominations and they keep searchers going. Dimes IMO are the most consistent producers of silver because they do not circulate as much as quarters and haven't been searched as much as halves. But of course...do what is most fun for you! |

My dime hunting is still going on, even though the banks are closed. I went to the Coinstar again yesterday, and a guy dumping over $60 in change sold me all his rejects for $5. I counted them out: 28 90% Roosevelts! Tomorrow, I'll start hitting rolls again.

Here are the dimes I found this weekend. The two at bottom left I found a couple of days ago. The other 28 I got yesterday.  |

Hey CPC24-are you getting the 8.9% taken out of your total at coinstars? If you have a bank or credit union that has a coin counter it should save you some money.

I don't use the Coinstars very often. The only reason I was at this Coinstar was to check for rejects.

If you get Amazon gift certificates instead of cash, there's no fee for using Coinstars. I dump halves there occasionally, but there's a limit to how many Amazon bucks I can use, even though I buy everything there. |

I did two boxes of dimes this weekend. The first was a Brinks box I picked up on Wednesday and hadn't gotten to yet, the second I picked up on Saturday along with some nickels (each box was 30/20 CWR and shrink-wrapped). The first box of dimes was a total skunk, not even any weird foreign coins to make it interesting. I didn't have high hopes for the second because of so many CWR. I had assumed they were dumps because there were so many and I hadn't gotten anything from the CWR of dimes from this bank before. But the CWR rolls produced one silver 1964 dime. I saved one of the shrink-wrapped rolls until I had finished my weekend chores, because it showed an edge, and from the color and wear, it looked like old silver. I wasn't disappointed.  |
