I just aquired a bunch of Kenndy half dollar proofs. I know this question has been asked before on the forum, but I am having a hard time checking for the clad layer on the edge of the coin it almost looks uniform. There does appear to be reddish hue to the luster, ie copper. I know that there were some years that they did not make a silver proof. This is what I acquired....Any help? 1979 1980 1981 1986 1987 1988 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 2003

The silver proofs were restarted in 1992 so anything before that on your list will definitely be clad. For the rest, you can do the tissue test. Lay a thin tissue over a known silver coin and a known clad coin, the silver will reflect bright white while the clad will look dark grey. Once you know what it is supposed to look like, check your unknown proofs and you will have your answer.

If the edge has a brown strip on it, they are clad

If you lay a tissue paper of the top of the coin the coin will show through gray if it is clad and white if silver. Try it, I was surprised that it worked.

I balance them on my finger and tap them with another coin and listen for the ring... you dont have to hit them hard at all. The silver ring is signifigantly diffrent than the clad.
