I was looking through a colleague's coins before he took them to the bank and came across this 2006 50c. There seems to have been some impact on the reverse and a corresponding shaved area on the rim. I've tried to take some photos to illustrate and was just wondering if this was a mint error or just something that happened in circulation?

From the pics, it looks most like it's been dropped hard on one corner - post-mint damage.
